High Voltage Standard / V0 - DRAFT 2025-03-21

The aim of this lesson is to familiarise participants with the tools, equipment and methods for confirming absence of voltage in HV settings and to provide opportunities for them to practice using these safely in realistic exercise scenarios.

After having successfully completed this lesson, the participants can:

105) Select appropriate tools, equipment and PPE for conducting HV work following standard procedures (Skills, advanced level)

ELEMENT 12.1 - HV TOOLS AND PPE FOR CONFIRMING ABSENCE OF VOLTAGE

To achieve the lesson learning objectives, the participants can:

106) Select the appropriate PPE, tools and equipment for safely proving absence of voltage, HV isolation and earthing tasks (Skills, advanced level)

The instructor shall:

Explain and demonstrate the functions, features and correct use of tools and equipment for confirming absence of voltage, HV isolations and earth.

Hot Stick and Insulated Tools

b. Selecting appropriate PPE, tools and equipment for the Isolations and Earthing task

Facilitate participants to correctly select tools, and equipment in a range of nominated tasks within practical exercises, by following procedures, work instructions, and manuals.

Quiz participants on their selection and use of tools and equipment.

The participants shall:

Engage in small groups to correctly select tools, equipment and PPE for a range of nominated tasks in practical exercises

Describe the reasons for selecting certain tools and equipment for different tasks in normal or unexpected work situations.
