High Voltage Standard / V0 - DRAFT 2025-03-21
ELEMENT 12.2 - METHODS FOR CONFIRMING ABSENCE OF VOLTAGE - PRIMARY AND SECONDARY, OR ADDITIONAL METHODS
To achieve the lesson learning objectives, the participants can:
107) Apply installed and portable voltage detection equipment following standards to verify absence of voltage (Skills, intermediate level)
108) Evaluate system response and visual indications of voltage using primary and additional methods (Skills, advanced level)
The instructor shall:
Explain and demonstrate methods for confirming absence of voltage
Demonstrate primary methods:
a.
Use of installed equipment
a.i different types including capacitive discharge voltage detection, etc.
b.
HV voltage detector
Illustrate and explain Voltage Detection Systems Standards
a. IEC 62271-213 (new) / IEC EN61243-5 (old), or an equivalent standard
Demonstrate secondary / other / additional methods that could also be applied:
a.
Noncontact, tic tracer and others
a.i
Limitations
a.ii AC v DC
a.iii shielded cable
b.
Visual indication
c.
System response and indication
Facilitate participants in an exercise applying installed and portable voltage detection equipment following standards to verify absence of voltage.
