21) Explain the key points in a breakout inspection and signs of problems to look out for (Knowledge, intermediate level)
The instructor shall:
Demonstrate the key points in a HV cable breakout inspection, explaining the purpose and importance of every check:
a. correct measurements of breakout (vary up to 2cm)
b.
damage on heat shrink including 4-finger
c.
damage on heat shrink on conductor
d. check that heat shrink doesn’t interfere with T-connector
e.
cuts or pressure marks on the stress cone
f.
cuts or pressure marks on the insulation core
g.
cut marks or damages on bare conductor
h.
z-measurement
i.
mastic tape - purpose and correct application
j.
correct cable lock crimping
Demonstrate different AL/CU connectors and lugs, screw and crimping methods
Illustrate the importance of good contact by sharing stories of issues and consequences from past cases of failures and faults
Facilitate participants in a practical exercise to activate learning, for example:
a. break into teams to recall key points in a breakout inspection
b. award points to the group that recall most key points without reference to notes
The participants shall:
Ask questions about key points in a breakout inspection and signs of problems to look out for.
Engage in the practical exercise and quiz fellow participants on key points in a breakout inspection and signs of problems to look for
