ELEMENT 6.1 - PREPARATION AND PROTECTION OF HV CABLE
To achieve the lesson learning objectives, the participants can:
37) Recognise proper storage and handling of HV cables to prevent damage (Knowledge, basic level)
38) Apply mechanical protection for cable during pulling using ground covering mats or carpets (Skills, intermediate level)
39) Apply suitable protection to the break-out in readiness for cable pulling (Rocket, etc.) (Skills, intermediate level)
The instructor shall:
Brief participants on different types of HV cables and their specific handling requirements.
Quiz participants on the proper storage methods to prevent cable damage.
a. Review the setup of the cable drum, ensuring correct alignment and unrolling technique from the top.
b. Illustrate correct storage methods for HV cables (e.g., cable drums, pallets, protective covers).
Facilitate a discussion with participants on common risks associated with incorrect storage and handling (e.g., cable deformation, insulation damage).
Allocate participants in groups to practice laying down ground covering mats or carpets to provide mechanical protection during cable pulling
