a. Inspect stored cable drums and HV cables, identifying correct and incorrect storage and handling practices.
b. Correct identified issues and demonstrate how to document and communicate them appropriately.
c. Apply protection for cable during pulling using ground covering mats or carpets
d. Practice applying suitable protection to the break-out in readiness for cable pulling (Rocket, etc.)
Ask and answer questions of fellow participants on good and practices, pitfalls and typical problems
ELEMENT 6.2 - PREPARATION OF EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS
To achieve the lesson learning objectives, the participants can:
40) Take responsibility for installation environment by removing obstructions and installing necessary supports (e.g., auxiliary winches, guide rollers, chain hooks) (Ability, intermediate level)
41) Apply safe lifting operations controls and techniques following the lifting plan and WIs, using equipment that is fit for purpose, inspected and certified (Skills, intermediate level)
The instructor shall:
Divide participants into small groups to solve a table-top scenario to prepare equipment for a HV cable pulling operation including:
a.
installing HV cable support
b.
install auxiliary winch
c.
install guide rollers
d. removal of obstructions, platform floor plates, hatchways, etc
e. correct set-up of cable drum (alignment, unrolling from top.
Ask each group to identify steps and requirements for installing HV cable supports, auxiliary winches, and guide rollers.
Quiz participants on relevant preparations such as:
a.
removal of any obstructions
b.
preparing the installation area
