THE NORTH PLATTE TELEGRAPH

Caroline Sabin

2023 Women of Achievement nominees in social services Maggie Butler Nominator: Molly Morales Maggie is the North Platte Public Schools student services liaison. She serves as a link between school, home and the community for all children in grades pre-K through sixth grade in North Platte Public Schools. She supports students’ social-emotional needs, assists families with obtaining basic needs and resources, assesses family needs and makes community referrals. She makes sure that the community mobile food pantry runs smooth every month, volunteers and participates in plays at the North Platte Community Playhouse, and serves as a mentor and board member for TeamMates Mentoring of North Platte.

Nominator: Janet Livingston Caroline Sabin is the director of Families First Partnership in North Platte. As a former teacher and child well-being coordinator at West Central District Health Department, Caroline came to realize that many families needed support in caring for and rais- ing their children. That support might involve finances, mental health, help connecting with community resources or education to help them become the best parents they could be. Working with the Nebraska Children and Families Foundation, Caroline formed Families First Partnership in 2017. Families First Partnership is a non- profit organization funded through Nebraska Children and Families Foundation and various grants. Its pur- pose is to raise awareness, improve access to resources, build relationships and facilitate collaboration among the services available in our community. Caroline works tirelessly to raise awareness of family needs, but also to help families know what assistance is available to them, wrote nominator Janet Livingston. She has helped initi- ate programs in our community such as Parent-Child Interactive Therapy, Parents Interacting with Infants, Boys Town Common Sense Parenting and Circle of Security Parenting. She has written numerous grants to provide funding to help directly meet the needs of people in the local area. Individuals who reach out to Families First Partnership are also connected through the guidance and partnership of Caroline and Tori, the central navi-

gator at Families First Partnership, to other service organizations that could provide appropriate assistance. One of the essential services Caroline has provided through Families First Partnership is linkage and collabora- tion of service agencies and organiza- tions within the local area. She has hosted the North Platte Interagency for several years. She has been involved in the organization of the annual Project Connect, a one-day event for commu- nity members to access up to 50 differ- ent services in one day. She formulated Community Response and the Community Collaborative to organize service agency response to the needs of people in the local area. She began a Families First Partnership Facebook page that has frequent daily informa- tion about parenting, families, events, and information about classes and ser- vices for families. She has helped create a Resource Directory on the Families First Partnership webpage, called “First Link,” where over 120 agencies listed their information and events. In addi- tion, she chairs the Lincoln County Child Abuse Prevention Council. With needs evident in other areas of Nebraska, Caroline has in the last year, with the guidance of Nebraska Children and Families Foundation, expanded services in Keith County and Southwest Nebraska, organizing similar services and resources for those areas. Outside of her work with Families First Partnership, Caroline is active at her church, is a partner with her hus- band at their cattle ranch and is a lov- ing mother of three and grandmother of three granddaughters.
