Instructions for: MDF Board products (15mm Thick)

MDF wood can be done or decorated with our wood-burning gel Torch Paste. Please see the Torch Paste video on JG Electronics FB or YouTube to learn how to do Torch paste on wood.

FOR SUBLIMATING ON THE MDF WOOD, YOU WILL NEED:

Heat Press + Heat Tape

Sublimation Paper

Sublimation Printer

2.5 Silicone/Rubber Pad

HOW TO PREPARE AND PRESS? 1. Remove the Teflon sheet from the press, you will press directly on the rubber of the press.

2. Mirror your design. Print with sublimation ink on sublimation paper.

3. Cut out your artwork so that you leave a white unprinted area at the top and bottom, which you can fold around the wood. Don ’ t cut away all white areas of the paper.

4. Let the print face the printable side of the MDF product.

OPTIONAL: If you see any black dirt marks on your MDF due to laser cutting, you can lightly sand them down to remove the marks. I find this method better than attempting to use a cloth, which only smudges the black marks. Sanding will also smooth out the surface, providing you with a better print.

5. Line up your print, then fold the white top and bottom areas of the paper around the edge of the MDF wood and secure it with heat tape to the MDF product.

6. Set the press to 200°C and 330 sec.

7. When the temperature is reached, put the red 2.5mm rubber pad in the press and let it heat up for about 10 min. TIP: You don’t have to change the time on your press from 330 seconds to 10 minutes for this step. What I do is, I let the 330 seconds run out, then quickly open and close my press again, let it run for 330 seconds once more, and repeat for a third time. This process ensures that the pad will be hot enough.

8. When the time is up and the rubber is heated, open the press and, using gloves, immediately lift up the hot red 2.5mm rubber pad. Place the MDF product with the print underneath it. It is VERY IMPORTANT to place the product at the back of your press where there is even and maximum pressure.

9. Make sure you use heavy pressure then close the press and press for 330 seconds. Work very fast with this step, you don ’ t want the rubber pad to cool down again.

10. After the time is up, remove the print immediately and let the MDF product cool down on a table.

11. No need for heavy objects on top to keep it straight. After it is cooled down, it will recover to flat.
