A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9
It has been a pleasure to see a bit of sunshine this week and to lighten our mood further, we have been celebrating Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day by wearing red and proposing jokes for the cheesiest joke competition! Each form group has offered a joke with the year group selecting their favourite. The best joke from each year group will be forwarded to the grand final and an overall winner will be selected. Watch this space to find out about the Waldegrave winning joke! Winners will be sharing in next week’s newletter and voluntary donations can still be made via Parentpay. We look forward to celebrating the many achievements of our students in the Year 9 Celebration Assembly next week. 9EMU and 9PWA have been have been doing extremely well in racking up the e-praise points this week but will it be enough to claim first prize? We’ll wait with baited breath for the assembly to find out! Remember that students can use their e-praise points to claim prizes on the e-praise website. As the Easter holidays come into view, I’d like to remind parents that this might be a time to restock school stationery such as purple pens and whiteboard pens. We are also reminding students of the need to allow plenty of time for their journey to school so that they arrive in form time in with time to spare before the register is taken at 8.35am. Please note that students arriving at form time after this time will receive a 20 minute late detention at the end of the school day.
Have a good week!
MRS MORTIMER, HEAD OF YEAR 9
BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘One of Us is Lying’ by Karen M. McManus The book is set in a high school, where five teenagers Addy, Cooper, Nate, Bronwyn and Simon all end up in detention together. A few minutes into the detention a car accident happens right outside, while their teacher hurries out to check what has happened, one of the students, Simon, falls dead. The remaining four students are the main suspects because they were present during his death BUT…. who did it? I really loved reading this book, after the first chapter I was hooked and couldn’t seem to put it down. There are cliffhangers everywhere. New evidence keeps popping up and every time I thought I knew who had killed Simon, more clues came out suggesting another person. Every character has a secret to hide, and an interesting backstory. At the end there was such a plot twist that I was left with my jaw hanging open, I could never have guessed how the murder case unravels. I recommend this to people who love murder mystery!! - Camille P, 8PUN
