CREATIVE, CARING, AND SMILE-OBSESSED GET TO KNOW COURTNEY:
Hi everyone! My name is Courtney, and I’m so excited to introduce myself to all of you. I first started here at Newman Springs in early January, and since then, I’ve been promoted to lead assistant, which has been such an exciting step for me. It’s been an incredible journey so far, and I feel so lucky to be part of this amazing team. Before joining Newman Springs Dental Care, I worked in oral surgery, primarily assisting with implants and extractions. Right after dental assisting school, I jumped in and learned a lot about those specialized procedures. But over time, I realized I wanted to deepen my knowledge and gain a broader understanding of dentistry as a whole, not just the surgical side of things. That’s when I found Newman Springs Dental Care, and I instantly knew it was the perfect fit. Here, we do everything from general dentistry to sedations and implants, which allows me to explore all aspects of dental care, learn more every day, and truly grow in my career. You might be wondering why dentistry became my passion in the first place. Funny enough, it started back when I was a kid. I got braces in second grade and had them for seven years. At the time, I didn’t fully realize how much of an impact they would have on me, but looking back, I see how transformative it was, not just for my smile, but for my confidence and self-esteem.
When I started college at Kean University, I originally planned to go into early childhood education. But then COVID-19 hit, and like many of us, I had to pause and think about what I was passionate about. Through reflection and conversations with my mom, I realized dentistry had always fascinated me. I wanted to help people experience the same kind of confidence boost I did after my braces were removed. It clicked: I wanted to spend my life helping people feel their best about themselves. What I love most about this career is how it blends art and science. Dentistry is incredibly hands- on and creative, and fascinating things always happen in the office. Even minor adjustments can be captivating, and it’s amazing to see patients’ reactions when their treatment improves their smile and confidence. Whether catching up with regular patients or welcoming new ones, every day brings the chance to form meaningful connections and make a positive impact. With my promotion to lead assistant, I now take on more responsibilities behind the scenes, including ensuring everything runs smoothly, overseeing orders, and ensuring cases are organized and complete. It’s a larger role, but I’m really excited about it. I take great pride in contributing more to the team and supporting our patients even better.
Outside of work, I have a passion for arts and crafts. I love pottery, painting, and drawing, and I’ve recently gotten back into reading. Romance and thriller novels are my favorite way to unwind after a busy day. On a personal note, I also got engaged this past March, and we’re already planning our wedding for fall 2026, which is an exciting new chapter for me … bring on the planning! All in all, I feel so grateful to be part of Newman Springs, doing work I truly love, with people who make every day enjoyable. I can’t wait to meet all of you, get to know your stories, and help you achieve the smiles and confidence you deserve!

Missing teeth can do more than affect your smile; they can change how you talk, eat, and even your facial structure over time. Fortunately, modern dentistry offers several solutions to fill the gaps, with dental bridges, partial dentures, and dental implants. While all three aim to restore your smile and function, they differ in how they work, feel, and fit into your lifestyle. What Are Dental Bridges? Dental bridges are a fixed solution. They literally “bridge” the gap left by missing teeth using crowns on the adjacent teeth as anchors. The artificial teeth in the middle restore function and aesthetics, which helps make chewing and speaking feel natural. Because bridges are permanently cemented, you don’t have to worry about removing them daily. FILL THE GAP PERMANENT VS. REMOVABLE TOOTH REPLACEMENT OPTIONS
SUDOKU
Pros of Dental Bridges: • Permanent and stable • Feels and functions like natural teeth • Seamless aesthetic appearance Cons of Dental Bridges:
• Requires healthy neighboring teeth for support • Sometimes requires filing down natural teeth • Needs excellent oral hygiene to prevent decay around anchors What Are Partial Dentures? Partial dentures are removable appliances designed to replace multiple missing teeth in one or more areas of the mouth. They attach to existing teeth with clasps or precision attachments. Partials are customizable and often a more budget-friendly option than bridges. Pros of Partial Dentures: • Don’t require altering healthy teeth • Can replace multiple teeth in different areas • More cost-effective Cons of Partial Dentures: • Removable, so they may shift while eating or speaking

CLASSIC ITALIAN TIRAMISU
Ingredients
•
1/4 cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder, plus more for dusting
•
1/4 tsp kosher salt
• Require daily cleaning outside the mouth • Clasps may feel noticeable or uncomfortable
•
16 oz mascarpone cheese, chilled
•
1 cup brewed espresso
What Are Dental Implants? Dental implants are a permanent solution that replaces missing teeth at the root level. A titanium post is surgically placed into the jawbone, and a crown is attached on top. Implants feel and function like natural teeth, prevent bone loss, and don’t rely on neighboring teeth, offering a long- term, low-maintenance option.
•
1 tbsp vanilla extract
•
1 3/4 cups heavy cream, chilled
•
5 large egg yolks, cold
•
28 hard ladyfinger cookies
•
1/2 cup white sugar
Directions
Pros of Dental Implants: • Permanent and stable • Feels and functions like natural teeth • Prevents bone loss and maintains facial structure Cons of Dental Implants: • Higher upfront cost • Requires minor surgery • Healing time needed before crown placement Choosing the Right Option
1. In a bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, espresso, and vanilla and set aside. 2. In a mixer, beat egg yolks and sugar until pale and thick, about 5 minutes. 3. Add salt and mascarpone cheese, and continue to whip. 4. Add the chilled heavy cream and continue to whip until light and smooth. 5. Dunk each ladyfinger in the espresso mixture to absorb the liquid and line a 7x11-inch oval baking dish with the cookies. 6. Top the first layer of cookies with half the whipped mascarpone mixture and spread it into an even layer. Dust with cocoa powder. 7. Repeat for another layer and then finish by dusting with cocoa powder on top. 8. Cover with plastic wrap and chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
In the office, we will consider factors like the location of missing teeth, your bite, oral health, and budget before recommending the best solution. Bridges, partials, and implants all restore function, improve aesthetics, and boost confidence, but knowing the nuances ensures your choice fits your lifestyle and long-term dental health.

FROM SKY TO SAVANNAH The World’s Most Remarkable Animal Migrations
THE GREAT WILDEBEEST MIGRATION On the savannahs of East Africa, over a million wildebeest, accompanied by zebras and gazelles, follow the rains in what’s known as the Great Migration. Their route forms a massive loop across the Serengeti and Maasai Mara, filled with dangers, from predators like lions to perilous river crossings guarded by crocodiles. Despite the risks, this spectacle continues each year.
Across the globe, animals of all shapes and sizes embark on extraordinary journeys that defy the imagination. Whether by flying, swimming, or running, these migrations are nature’s way of balancing survival with the ever- changing world. Some of these trips cover thousands of miles, while
others involve climbing mountains or crossing rivers, but each demonstrates resilience, instinct, and the interconnectedness of life on Earth. A RECORD-BREAKING TRAVELER One of the most remarkable travelers is the Arctic tern, a small seabird from the icy North Pole that flies to the far reaches of Antarctica and back, logging up to 25,000 miles! That’s the longest migration of any animal on the planet. For a bird weighing less than a smartphone, it’s an incredible feat. JOURNEY ACROSS GENERATIONS The monarch butterfly tells a different kind of migration story: one of teamwork across generations. Starting in Canada and the northern U.S., monarchs head south toward central Mexico. Along the way, they breed and die, passing the torch to their offspring. By the time the journey is complete, 4–5 generations have passed over the span of the trip.
ALTITUDINAL MIGRATION While some species traverse continents, others take shorter but equally vital journeys. Many animals, like Red Pandas, spotted owls, and snow leopards, practice altitudinal migration and climb to higher elevations in summer when food is abundant. Then they descend in winter for shelter and warmth. Though smaller in scale, these seasonal shifts are just as critical for survival. Migration is a survival strategy shaped by millions of years of evolution. Nature’s great migrations are living reminders of resilience and interconnectedness. Every journey, whether by bird, butterfly, or wildebeest, shows how far life will go to endure.
