Valdez’s response was immediate.
He recalls a production facility in Argentina losing a controller immediately before a long U.S. holiday. Millennium located one in Utah, flew out to retrieve it, put it on a direct flight to Argentina, moved it through customs and had it installed within 48 hours.
“Oh, no, you don’t. You have no idea what you’re saying.”
So he started him as a mechanic’s helper.
His son later earned an MBA, learned the equipment, worked through engineering challenges and moved into manufacturing. Today, Robert says, he asks him for advice. When Downtime Costs Thousands In Millennium’s world, a stopped machine can mean thousands of dollars lost by the hour. When a customer goes down, the response becomes immediate. “We’ll work 24 hours,” Valdez says. “We’ll subcontract out. We’ll look for anyone that can help solve that problem.”
“Whatever it takes to keep the customers running.”
But urgency does not replace diagnosis.
If a fuse fails, Millennium’s service team wants to understand why.
Replacing it may restart the machine, but a short, loose cable or another underlying issue can simply create the next shutdown. The company also asks customers to make difficult decisions around preventive maintenance, including temporarily giving up production time when doing so protects long-term uptime. 35
