That same mindset was reinforced by the blue-collar and construction roots both men inherited from their fathers— an influence they credit with shaping their insistence on building Jersey Tactical’s products in America. A FOUNDRY, A WOODEN MODEL & A PROMISSORY NOTE The first Jersey Tactical product grew out of Dapkins’ frustration with a backpack of breaching tools he carried on SWAT. The problem was not simply that he disliked it. In his experience, the tools were heavy, difficult to access quickly during an emergency and did not perform the way he believed breaching equipment should.

“The bosses bought it, so we carry it,” he remembers the attitude being.

Dapkins began sketching a replacement, and Klementowicz turned those drawings into wooden models. The two spent weekends grinding, cutting, changing angles and testing prototypes until they began getting closer to what they wanted. “We didn’t have engineers or machine equipment,” Klementowicz says. “All we had were grinders and torches.”

Eventually, they found a Pennsylvania foundry in the phone book and arrived carrying their wooden models.

They explained what they wanted to make and made one requirement clear from the beginning: they wanted it manufactured in the United States.

The response from the foundry was blunt. “That’s not gonna be cheap.”
