A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8
I want to say a huge well done to Year 8 as I have had wonderful feedback this week from staff and subject teachers about their work ethic and positive attitudes. This week our Year 8 Netball Team have been busy representing Waldegrave playing hard fought matches against Christ School and Richmond Park Academy. On both occasions losing to the other teams. But the camaraderie and teamwork displayed in this developing team was exemplary. Well done girls! Eco Committee Plant competition update: Year 8 have been busy nurturing their form class plants and imaginatively decorating their pots. It’s been lovely to see the plants in their decorated pots displayed proudly in the windows of their classrooms. We are looking forward to seeing the results. There is an opportunity for Year 8 to take part in our annual Easter Bonnet Competition which takes place on the last day of term before the Easter Break. Following the wonderful efforts Year 8 made last year, it would be great to have representation from our year group entering this year. Do encourage your child to enter this competition.
Today we have been wearing red in celebration of Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day (voluntary contributions can be made via Parentpay) and enjoying lots of jokes as the forms competed in our Best Joke competition.
We would love to hear about and celebrate our students’ achievements outside of school. Please be sure to let us know of anything your child has been involved with that deserves recognition.
Looking forward to another week with our wonderful year group and hopefully more of the spring sunshine!

BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘The Girl of Ink & Stars’ by Kiran Millwood This book is a captivating story about a girl called Isabella, a cartographer’s daughter. She lives on an island called Joya. When her best friend Lupe disappears, Isabella is determined to join the search party by using her mapmaking skills and knowledge of the stars which help guide the search. The world beyond the walls is filled with monsters and ancient myths. Isabella must save not only Lupe but the island too. I enjoyed the character, Isabella, since she was resilient - she never gave up - and brave. I also liked how Isabella’s maps and knowledge transformed into something magical. The more you read the more secrets are revealed. If you liked ‘The Last Bear’ by Hannah Gold or ‘The Wolf Wilder’ by Katherine Rundell, since they also feature brave girls in magical settings, then you would enjoy this book.
