Foundation Degree in Psychodynamic Counselling
BA (Hons) Counselling Studies (Top-Up) The programme enables students to deepen their understanding of Counselling theory and practice. The programme is designed to enable individual participants who have no first degree to gain a BA (Hons) in Counselling Studies. Counselling as a discipline is broad and continues to grow in reputation and in importance to diverse range of roles: education administration, community development, health and social care, early years practitioners, human resources and the voluntary sector. For its scope, the programme draws on educational aspects of Psychology, Sociology and Philosophy to give students the appreciation of counselling as a field of study. It is expected that students are practising counsellors or have relevant recent experience such as working in related professions. This course leads to a BA (Hons) Degree and enables progression on to Masters level. It does not give you qualified counsellor status.
Psychodynamic counselling is based on the belief that the past influences the present in ways that we are not always aware of. A psychodynamic counsellor will strive to help clients recognise the possible source of some of their issues e.g. unhelpful relationship patterns. This two-year Foundation Degree qualifies you to practice in a public practice and you will also be equipped to open your own private practice. The course will provide you with the necessary training in skills and theory to meet the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy requirements in those areas to accredit individual counsellors. It would then be your responsibility to seek individual accreditation. The course is psychodynamic in orientation with some consideration of the humanistic approach. To qualify you must have already completed a Level 3 Counselling course.

I find the teaching really stays with me on this course, I think this is because the tutors relate the theories to real-life examples and encourage us to bring our own experience in. The group is very dynamic as well, we all do our professional practice in different settings. The support from the class is important as the nature of the course can take a lot out of you, but it is also extremely rewarding. Charley, Counselling

Nescot is one of the very few colleges within travelling distance of London to offer a Higher Education course in Animal Management. Animal and land-based careers are enjoying unprecedented growth in the UK and people are actively being sought to fill skills shortages. The college has devoted more than half of its campus to a modern City Farm and Nescot is now using its years of experience working within the land-based industry to offer a Foundation Degree. This curriculum area has a dynamic, dedicated, enthusiastic team of lecturers who are highly respected by our students. Our members of staff are all qualified teachers who have both vocational and academic experience and they are qualified to degree or Masters Level. They also have extensive practical work experience within the industry, both national and international, and they use this to provide students with industry-appropriate knowledge and skills. We also provide animal care courses at levels 1, 2 and 3 and these have provided a strong progression route for students in the past. In our animal facility we have a wide range of small animals, reptiles and amphibians, both domestic and exotic. Our farm maintains a varied range of livestock animals including donkeys, sheep, goats, alpacas and pigs.
The Foundation Degree in Animal Welfare and Management enables students to develop the skills and knowledge required to work in the hugely varied land-based industry. It gives a broad overview of working with animals as well as giving students the opportunity to develop their knowledge base in animal anatomy, physiology, health, welfare, behaviour and cognition, conservation and animal husbandry. It is designed to provide students with the practical skills required and academic competency to excel within this extensive industry. The Foundation Degree also provides a gateway to a range of Higher Education options. At the same time, this theory is put into practice at Nescot’s substantial animal care facilities. The course gives students the opportunity to develop a high standard of education within the comfort of a vocational setting that is not commonly available at Higher Education Institutions. The BSc (Hons) Animal Management and Conservation (Top-up) Degree has been designed to provide a mechanism whereby graduates of the Foundation Degree in Animal Welfare and Management can top-up their qualification to a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree. Consideration will also be given to applicants with passes in comparable Level 5 modules from other institutions.

In some cases we’re also able to be flexible with our entry requirements, for example accepting substantial work experience in lieu of some academic qualifications.

Epsom and Ewell has something for everyone, and was ranked as the 2nd happiest place to live in Surrey in 2021. Epsom is a lively town with a shopping centre, restaurants, bars, pubs, nightclubs and a theatre, while Ewell is a quiet and picturesque village. The borough has plenty of green open spaces, from the compact and historic Bourne Hall in Ewell to the 250-acre Nonsuch Park on the borough’s borders.
Epsom is also host to the famous Derby, billed as the world’s greatest flat race, which has been a fixture of the horse racing calendar since the inaugural race in 1780. The two-day racing festival of The Oaks and The Derby attracts over 150,000 people to the racecourse. There’s also a popular summer programme of affordable evening racing and music and, even when there isn’t any racing, the Downs are a beautiful open space to walk, ride and picnic.
