The Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is a qualification which prepares students for study at university. It is designed for people who want to do university-level study but do not have suitable A Levels or an equivalent Level 3 qualification. They are also ideal for people who have had a gap in formal learning and want to refresh their study skills. Each year around 20,000 Access students across the country progress onto degree-level courses. An Access to HE course will help you develop the knowledge and confidence you need for university. Alongside specialist modules in your chosen subject area, you will develop your techniques for advanced learning, including research, assignment writing and examination technique. Working individually and in the group, you will prepare projects and presentations and will have the scope to focus on particular areas of interest within your subject. Nescot offers Access to HE pathways in 4 subjects as listed above. Each are designed to lead to degree-level study in the relevant subject areas.
Detailed information about each programme and the degree courses they may lead to is on the Nescot website at www.nescot.ac.uk/access. You must be aged 19 or over on the first day of the course, but you do not need a work placement. You must have GCSE maths and English at grade 4 (formerly grade C) or above and will take an assessment as part of the application process, to ensure that the course is suitable for you. Access courses are a well-recognised entry route to university, however if you have a specific HE course and institution in mind, it is recommended that you confirm they will accept the Access course as an entry qualification before you enrol.
