Epsom and Ewell has something for everyone, and was ranked as the 2nd happiest place to live in Surrey in 2021. Epsom is a lively town with a shopping centre, restaurants, bars, pubs, nightclubs and a theatre, while Ewell is a quiet and picturesque village. The borough has plenty of green open spaces, from the compact and historic Bourne Hall in Ewell to the 250-acre Nonsuch Park on the borough’s borders.
Epsom is also host to the famous Derby, billed as the world’s greatest flat race, which has been a fixture of the horse racing calendar since the inaugural race in 1780. The two-day racing festival of The Oaks and The Derby attracts over 150,000 people to the racecourse. There’s also a popular summer programme of affordable evening racing and music and, even when there isn’t any racing, the Downs are a beautiful open space to walk, ride and picnic.
