15 years Journey since launch
SAP BWN is a fantastic community that enables women and men to work together towards our common goal of gender equality across SAP and within our industry. I first got involved 8 years ago, at a local level through BWN Vancouver, Canada, and soon realized the positive impact we can all make through our collective efforts. Starting from listening to each other and learning from each other to coaching and supporting one another, to guiding each other in our career journeys, this network has built employee engagement and retention and has enriched the SAP culture. Leading BWN has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my career at SAP!
As the largest employee-driven network at SAP, the Business Women’s Network is a critical driver to SAP Diversity and Inclusion strategy, while being a strong network support to all its members. I have the privilege of being involved with BWN for over 8 years, starting as a Chapter Lead in Montreal, Canada and evolving to have an impact at its Global Board of Directors. I have witnessed its evolution from its initial formative years to the engaged and vibrant network it is nowadays. For me, too, my experience at BWN has been one of the most rewarding in my career at SAP!

Our network has a powerful story to tell. It all started back in 2007 when a group of extraordinary women leaders at SAP Germany recognized the need to elevate the role of women in technology and within our organization. These pioneers were trailblazers for women’s empowerment, at a time when gender diversity wasn’t on the corporate radar. Once officially established, the network progressed steadily over the years, and it enjoyed a very successful journey of growth and impact, along with strong support from the SAPBoard. Fast forward to 2022: SAP BWN celebrated 15 years of empowering and inspiring our members to drive women’s career development and fostering gender equity at SAP. We have come a long way since our early days, and we are more committed than ever to running a better world for women in the technology industry.

4. SAPBWN Strategy, Theme, and Priorities
Networking – Networking is a primary reason our members join; that’s why expanding our internal and external networks across our BWN chapters is always a focal point of our activities. We focus on strengthening relationships with other SAP ENGs and the SAP D&I office, including partnerships with SAP Pride, Black Employee Network, and Women in Tech. We also partner with external SAP customers and share best practices and strategic direction. Leadership Development – Our network prioritizes career development, mentorship, and sponsorship for women and BWN members. Our annual survey showed 40% of members have a mentor or are mentors, but only 20% have a sponsor. That’s why we aim to increase sponsorship numbers. Celebrate Successes – We strive to increase visibility for our network, and the exceptional work of our volunteers and chapter leads among senior management. This includes highlighting role models and success stories within BWN andSAP. Walk the Talk/Take Action – SAP has committed to the D&I strategy with a focus on workforce diversity, workplace inclusion, and marketplace leadership. Now, it’s time to walk the talk, take action, be accountable, and hold each other accountable for executing the strategy. Our focus is to build a culture of allyship, particularly towards women and less- represented minorities, across all levels.
We want to be intentional with our actions. That’s why our theme, “Drive Impact with Intention,” aims to have a meaningful impact on our employees and SAP, while also measuring the results of our efforts.
Our strategy encompasses four priorities:
Networking
•
Leadership Development
•
Celebrate Successes
•
Walk the Talk/Take Action

Our network comprises 97 global chapters, each led by chapter leaders and a committee of volunteers, with support from an executive sponsor and an HR sponsor. At the global level, the BWN Global Board of Directors, led by two co-chairs, four regional leads, and a team of board members/subject matter experts, manages all aspects of the network, including onboarding new chapters, enabling teams, coordinating global events, handling finances, working on partnerships, bringing transparency into analytics, and streamlining communications and social media. Chapter leaders and their committees of volunteers are the heart of the network that drives engagement and creates opportunities for members to connect, grow, and lead together. We aim to have an executive sponsor and an HR sponsor for each chapter to guide them through initiatives, business plans, and funding support.

6.3 Gender Inclusion, Progress with Conscious Effort
HeforShe Initiative
The HeforShe campaign is a collection of videos that highlights the importance of men’s active allyship in promoting gender equality. The campaign began with a series of seven videos featuring SAP executives discussing the seven principles of female empowerment (United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles - WEP), from education and training to active allyship. The videos showcase the perspectives of male colleagues on these principles.
Launched initially by BWN in Latin America, this initiative was also launched in Europe and the intention is totake it globally in 2023.

6.2 Touched Lives with Compassion
Global Give Back Circle
SAP BWN partnered with Global Give Back Circle (GGBC) to support gender equity, providing mentors and funding to assist in the education of underprivileged girls in Africa, India, and China. Having a mentor and sponsorship means that these girls have an opportunity to seek higher education.
SAP BWN increased funding by 50%, making the commitment to continued mentorship of their mentees.
In 2022, our partnership supported nine university girls and six high school girls, enabling them to continue school, buy equipment, or support their sick families. We are proud to be able to contribute to our goal of empowering girls in their transition into independent young women.

• Building resilience and leadership skills: We conducted Take Charge workshops to coach aspiring leaders and invited executive leaders from across the industry to the Meeting with the Minds - Thought Leadership series, where they shared their viewpoints on career and leadership topics.
• We conducted #IamRemarkable sessions, where members were coached on self-development.
• Cross-collaborating with other Employee Network Groups (ENGs): This included sharing successes with other ENGs, such as SAP Pride, Toastmasters and SAP Black Employee Network groups. • Strengthening business and financial acumen where experts designed a special curriculum, conducted workshops, and facilitated focused sessions to answer any open questions. The sessions had 1K+ participants. • Coaching young girls from local universities, by offering mentorship and internship opportunities through a well-designed curriculum. • Celebrating successes to promote passion and positive attitude by hosting networking lunch events, conducting Bring your kids to work day, and launching the U Show program that offers employees a stage to showcase their talent. • Driving social impact through Dress for Success, Style, Sustainability, and Support, a program run in collaboration with the global not-for-profit “Dress for Success,” to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

6.4 Career Growth and Leadership Development
Our members value BWN for career development and leadership coaching opportunities. Some examples of our initiatives in this area include:

SAP BWN was part of Team Liquid’s Women’s History Month program as a sponsor. As part of a panel with WTA, SAP demonstrated its commitment to gender parity and sustainability by discussing how women are playing a crucial role in promoting a more sustainable future for our planet. We encourage you to watch the summary video of the Women’s History Month Panel | Presented by SAP and Team Liquid.
BWN hosted regular Community Calls for all members in the region, where leaders engaged in candid discussions about the main topics that our members wanted to hear from them. Through these calls, we were able to establish stronger connections with HR, D&I, and SAP regional leaders.
6.5 Building Relationships Through Communities
Women’s History Month Panel with SAP, Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), and Team Liquid
BWN chapters regularly organize activities that involve inviting SAP executives to speak to our members through a series of sessions known as the Headway Series. These sessions have been very successful and attracted great participation thanks to their focus on topics like strategy insights, the power of self- leadership, and leadership reflections, as well as how to best articulate your asks and overcome the fear of failure. Over the course of the year, these monthly events have drawn in 3K+ attendees who left feeling inspired and motivated. 6.6 Inspiring Through Executive Conversations: Headway Series

8. Testimonials from our Allies and Members
Our network’s impact extends far beyond borders, reaching countless individuals across the globe. This impact has not gone unnoticed by our leaders and members, who have recognized the significant contributions of our network.
The SAP Business Women’s Network is best in class because it provides a platform to connect and learn from our peers and build impactful relationships. It is proven that having a thriving women’s network positively impacts business metrics and is a hallmark of a company which prioritizes diversity and inclusion. Their hard work helps us all realize our personal and professional growth.

With education, mentorship, and empowering others as the cornerstones of its mission, the Business Women’s Network is a shining example of how we can impact change together. I look forward to what the next 15 years bring.
I joined the Business Women’s Network when my company was acquired by SAP. This group helped me gain the network, understand the business and build my confidence that assured me that I did belong at SAP, and that my experience mattered. The Business Women’s Network is a major reason I remained at SAP after the acquisition.
SAP’s Business Women’s Network is an important network for the empowerment of women. It is elevating the gender equality discussions and plays a key role in driving diversity and inclusion across all SAP Board areas. The empowerment of women is not only important for a successful future of our industry, but for society at large.

For diversity to thrive, we strive to create the most inclusive environment, where everyone feels safe, feels a sense of belonging and truly has equal opportunity to contribute. I am personally committed to creating this environment for SAP with an openness to all advice that helps us achieve this goal.
The SAP Business Women’s Network is one of the key driving forces for a diverse and inclusive culture across SAP Asia, ensuring that gender equality is part of the fabric of our organization. I have valued being an active member of the group in Singapore, and learned so much from the many passionate female leaders who are inspiring the next generation.
As a business leader, I feel we can do much more to address gender inequity beyond voicing the need for change and advancing awareness. We need to be hands-on and influence real change with programs to attract and increase the representation of women and support pay equity. I am proud of the work we have been doing in LAC, but I know we can go much further.
SAP’s Business Women’s Network has been a transformational platform for the community in India to network, collaborate and learn from each other’s experiences. Over the last decade, the group has played an incredible role in building a robust pipeline of leaders from the region. I wish the team continued success.
