Using Multiplication and Division by a Positive Number to Solve Inequalities To solve a one-step inequality where the variable is multiplied by a positive number, divide both sides of the inequality by that coefficient. To solve a one-step inequality where the variable is divided by a positive number, multiply both sides of the inequality by that number.
