To divide by a mixed number, first change the mixed number into an improper fraction, and then multiply by its reciprocal. The rules for dividing signed numbers are the same as the rules for multiplying signed numbers. • If their signs are the same (either both positive or both negative), then the quotient is positive. • If their signs are different (one is positive and the other is negative), then their quotient is negative.
