father told her not to speak to Joseph. “You are no longer my son!” His father shouted in his native language. Joseph shuffled on back to the clinic. He didn’t feel like running now. “ I feel much hurt that my fa ther hates me but I will never be happy w i th ou t Chri st now, Bwana,” he told Dr. Clark. “ It will take much patience and love to win your folks to Christ,” Dr. Clark said. One day Joseph saw his mother come up the path to the clinic. She looked very sick! Joseph hur ried out to meet her and help her in. “Your mother will die if we don’t get her to the hospital im mediately,” Dr. Clark said, after he examined her. “ But my father will never per mit this!” Joseph’s eyes filled with tears. “ I’m going to visit your father. You stay here and take care of your mother.” When Dr. Clark returned , Joseph ran out to meet him. “What did my father say, Bwa na?” “He said if it is the only way, we should take your mother to the hospital.” Dr. Clark hurried to get the jeep ready. He careful ly wrapped Joseph’s mother in blankets and put her in the jeep. Joseph noticed his father watch ing from a distance as they left the clinic. At the hospital, Miss Jan quick ly prepared Joseph’s mother for surgery. Joseph stayed by her bed all that night. He knew Dr. Clark had done all he could. Joseph prayed that his mother would get well. The nex t morning she opened her eyes and smiled at him. A few days later, when Joseph looked out o f the hospital window, he saw his father in the yard! Joseph wanted to run out and talk with him but decided to fix him a nice warm breakfast in stead. The steaming hot coffee and breakfast smelled good to his Cont. on page i6

GOD LOVES s r °*“,N ATHEISTS R adio B ible C lass

T HE story istold about an atheist who was standing on a street corner blaspheming God. He finally cried out, "If there is a God in Heaven, I challenge Him to strike me dead in five minutes!” Breathless silence reigned as the seconds tick off. After the allotted time had gone by and nothing had happened, this sacrilegious scoffer cried out with a sneer, "You see, there is no God, or by this time He would have struck me dead.” Just as he was about to leave, however, an elderly woman stepped up to him and asked, "Do you have any children?” The man replied, “One son.” She said, “If your son gave you a knife and said to kill him would you do it?” He quickly answered, “Of course not.” "Well, why not?” The man replied, “Simply because I love him turned away, the little lady explained, “It’s also because God loves YOU so much, even though you are an atheist, that He refuses to accept your foolish challenge. He wants you saved, not lost.” With these simple words this dear woman gave utterance to one of

the most blessed truths found in the Word of God. Romans 5:6-8 tells us, “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a right eous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Wonder of wonders! God loved us so much that He sent His Son into this world knowing full well that wicked men would reject Him, persecute Him, and finally nail Him to a cruel tree. What comfort such love gives to those who are God’s children. As Paul says in Romans 8:32, “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also God loves us! He cares for us! He will pro vide! THOT: God loves us not forwhat we ARE, butforwhat He can MAKE ofus!
