Zero to multi-million pound business – this family firm is Completely Motoring
Just over a decade ago, a not-quite-40- year-old Rob Ayland was starting from near scratch in the used car market, after a successful corporate career in the motor trade. Last month, he marked another major business milestone – the opening of a new Yamaha Premier Exclusive showroom at the Staverton-headquarters of his now group of businesses called Completely Motoring. He chose to use the moment – in front of 450 guests and celebrities – to also direct praise for the upward trajectory of what is now a multi-million
pound operation to the next generation leading the company. After rising to managing director of Colt Cars Midwest, major marque Mitsubishi decided his future lay elsewhere, forcing a dramatic re-think for Mr Ayland. Putting all his faith in the skills which had served him well so far, and with a small pot of his own money and a trusted business partner, Completely Motoring was born behind the showroom of the very company that had laid him off. It was a journey which saw him starting over, but by 2017 the group had passed a £10 million turnover and is now believed to be close to double that.
