Gloucester Prison The site of what was once Gloucester Castle and then became the city’s gaol, Gloucester Prison has been empty, but for a few tours, since the last convict left in 2013. Plans to transform the 18th and 19th century prison buildings have been approved for two years and further land with development approval on the site is currently up for sale. When completed, it will house 202 city-centre homes across new-build and listed buildings while the remainder of the site will be – ironically – open space which anyone is free to roam in.
