My Story... Marilyn

Grandpa Russel Joseph Davies J. Russell Davies

Marion Baltrus / Davies / Pantle Marion Baltrus - Davies

I was born at 9 pm on a Saturday night during a frigid snowstorm on February 20, 1932 at the Taylor Hospital,Taylor,PA during the Depression. Dr. Steven Watson, my uncle, was the head of the hospital, so we went there, even though we lived in Scranton, PA. My father, J. Russell Davies, was a handsome, muscular man who worked as a mail carrier for 35-40 yrs. My mother, a beautiful blonde, was a stay- at-home Mom. Dad was Protestant, so he insisted that I be baptized Baptist

“Good Night Shirt.” -

When my Mother and Dad separated, we moved to Grandma’s house. I was baptized again, Catholic this time and I was enrolled in parochial school at St. Joseph’s Lithuanian school. My parents were born in the USA, but my Mother’s parents were born in Lithuania, so I learned Lithuanian. Dad’s parents were born here and his grandparents were born in Wales. I was very good in school and was always on the honor roll and only got in trouble with the nuns when I would turn around when the boys pulled my long curls, which happened a lot. My punishment was to kneel down in front of the Blessed Virgin for a time. I never told why I kept turning around.

I have memories that stood out in my mind from that time....

When I was in fourth grade, my teacher was Sister

My mother sang “Good night Sweetheart” every night
