CENTER’S OVERVIEW
The role of the Professional Development Center is seen in its dedication to providing services that assist faculty and professional staff in achieving the student-centered, outcomes-based pedagogy that is characteristic of the university. Also central to the university’s defining characteristic is the use of technology to provide current, engaging, and challenging instruction. Student-centered teaching and pervasive integration of technology are aspirations that are constantly being supported by the resources available. However, we must be reminded that the founding fathers of the university considered the professional development of all PMU personnel “would be a foundation for the success of the university”. To this end, a rich variety of programs are offered, including specialized responses to requests from other organizations at PMU, for assistance with teaching and learning. The readiness of the University for Distance Online Education has allowed students and faculty members to continue their studies without interruption. The university, since its establishment in 2006, uses the same online platform. For optimal use of the platform, the university's Professional Development Center (PDC) provides training webinars and periodic discussion sessions focusing on identifying the best methods and practices in online distance education. The PDC, in partnership with a group of international publishing houses and renowned universities, continuously offers training courses and webinars for students, faculty, and staff via the Internet on several topics, such as: The PDC, in partnership with a group of international publishing houses and renowned universities, continuously offers training courses and webinars for students, faculty, and staff via the Internet on several topics, such as:

YEAR CHALLENGES
During the past year, the Professional Development activities encountered several challenges that affected both participation and overall implementation. Attendance at scheduled sessions was lower than expected, largely due to conflicts with faculty teaching schedules. In many cases, planned activities overlapped not only with instructional commitments but also with major events and activities organized simultaneously by different colleges. This overlap limited faculty members’ ability to participate fully and reduced overall engagement in the scheduled programs. Securing speakers for the sessions also presented difficulties. Identifying qualified presenters — particularly those with expertise aligned to the Dashboard initiatives — required considerable effort. Challenges increased when inviting external speakers, as many potential presenters had limited availability due to their own academic, professional, or administrative obligations. These constraints made scheduling highly competitive and reduced the flexibility needed to secure expert contributions. Effective coordination of professional development initiatives remains essential. The individual overseeing the Professional Development Center (PDC) should possess strong communication and presentation skills to ensure that offerings are engaging, informative, and well-received by participants. Additionally, adequate staffing support is critical to the success of the PDC. The committee currently relies heavily on Learning Resources Center (LRC) library staff, who must balance these responsibilities with their primary roles. This reliance limits the committee’s capacity to plan, organize, and implement programs efficiently. According to TIEC expectations, the PDC must be supported with sufficient and dedicated staff to effectively sustain its functions. Expanding staffing and resources for the PDC will therefore be necessary to strengthen the reach, quality, and overall effectiveness of future professional development activities.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT
FACULTY FORUM
The Faculty Forum continued to serve as one of the Professional Development Center’s most impactful initiatives in 2025, providing a dynamic platform for academic exchange, innovation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. A total of 16 Faculty Forums were successfully conducted this year, exceeding the annual KPI target of 15 and reflecting the growing enthusiasm among faculty for sharing knowledge and best practices. These forums highlighted the diverse academic strengths across departments, with many faculty members voluntarily presenting their research, teaching strategies, and innovative classroom practices. The voluntary participation demonstrated a notable cultural shift toward open communication, scholarly engagement, and professional collaboration within the university community. The forums covered a wide range of topics aligned with institutional priorities, including emerging technologies in education, student-centered teaching practices, research methodologies, and strategies for improving learning outcomes. Presenters introduced new perspectives and practical approaches that enriched faculty understanding and contributed to ongoing pedagogical enhancement across colleges. Beyond knowledge sharing, the Faculty Forum strengthened interdepartmental relationships, enabling faculty to explore potential research collaborations and exchange insights on common instructional challenges. This growing academic dialogue has helped cultivate a supportive, idea- driven environment that benefits both faculty and students. Overall, the 2025 Faculty Forums played a vital role in promoting academic excellence, encouraging innovation, and supporting the university’s continuous improvement efforts. The success of this year’s forums underscores their importance as a core component of the Professional Development Center’s mission and a cornerstone of the institution’s collaborative culture.
