STUDENT TRAVEL AND SUPPORT
HSDC Alton provides a travel and financial support scheme to help our students reach their full potential. The College works closely with Stagecoach and South Western Railway to provide discounted travel tickets to all students. The Student Travel & Support team can provide information on: • Transport routes to college • Bus and Train Passes • Free Student Meals (FSM) • College Financial Assistance Scheme • Vulnerable Bursary Scheme • Childcare Financial Assistance Scheme TRAVEL – BUS PASSES All students are eligible to purchase an online discounted student bus pass through the Stagecoach website (regardless of household income). An additional Travel Subsidy may be available towards these bus passes for full time students (excluding Higher Education students). If you are eligible for this extra support, the College will email you near the beginning of the second term. The College may completely pay for a student’s bus pass if the student lives beyond 0.5 miles
of the campus, is studying a full time course (excluding Higher Education courses) and the household is in receipt of an income based benefit. All Stagecoach bus passes will be posted out to the home address of the student. TRAVEL – TRAIN PASSES The College have negotiated specially reduced priced train passes with South Western Railway. Students or parent/carers can apply for a train pass from the College and pay us directly. For households in receipt of an income based benefit, the college will deduct the equivalent cost of a bus pass directly from the termly cost of a train pass. There may be a contribution to pay towards a train pass. All train passes can be collected from the Student Travel & Support Office. 16-17 RAILCARD The Department of Transport has released a Railcard for 16 and 17-year-olds, the 16-17 Saver. A 16-17 Saver offers 50% off most rail fares every day of the year with no time restrictions and no minimum fare. The Railcard costs £30 and is valid for one year or until the student’s 18th birthday, whichever comes first.
