Teaching & Learning Lesson activities are varied, from practical technique classes to creative workshops to written analysis tasks. We also organise a huge range of trips to theatres, visiting workshops, alongside many opportunities to perform at College. This is a really exciting course for anyone who wishes to pursue a career within the performing arts industry. Assessment 100% coursework and controlled assessment. Entry Requirements Five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including a 4 in English. Alternatively, if you have studied at Level 2, you should have achieved a Merit or above. To study this course, you should have formal experience of two of the disciplines such as BTEC/GCSE in a Performing Arts subject, external dance, acting or singing grades (I.S.T.D, LAMDA, Trinity etc.) or regular experience via a youth theatre, school musicals, Rock Challenge or similar.

Overview Do you see exciting work on a professional stage and aspire to that level of brilliance? As a BTEC Performing Arts student, you’ll be part of a ‘theatrical company’ and be passionate in developing your own performing arts skills. You’ll develop technique, performance skills, creativity, the ability to critically comment and a working understanding of how the performing arts industry operates. This course enables you to investigate influential professionals within the industry, develop and use skills as an actor, dancer and singer, create a portfolio of performances and learn about job roles within the industry. Developing your skills in musical theatre, jazz dance, singing techniques, screen acting, the course culminates in a final performance to a live audience. Structure On the BTEC Performing Arts course, you will develop your skills in drama, dance and singing for staging theatre performances and musicals. You will investigate successful practitioners’ work; describing, analysing and evaluating dances, plays and songs by influential choreographers, playwrights, drama practitioners, composers and lyricists. The course and the performances you help stage will develop your skills as an actor, dancer and singer. You will work as part of a group to create performances in response to a specific stimulus. You will also study one specialist unit. These can include musical theatre, storytelling, jazz dance, singing techniques, acting styles, choreography, children’s theatre, improvisation or screen acting.
