Teaching & Learning Staff support your quest to learn at every stage. In Physical Geography, there is a great deal to understand which will require taking notes and writing essays. There will be a need to interpret maps and data. In Human Geography, there will be learning through discussions, and classroom presentations to prepare. IT research and wider reading is a large part of this course and we are fortunate to have superb facilities to allow for this. Visiting lecturers, trips to RGS London, and entering competitions are all part of your learning too! Assessment 20% coursework, 80% exams (two exam papers). Entry Requirements Five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including a minimum grade 5 in Maths, English and Geography.
Overview Geography is an intrinsically dynamic and exciting subject. Using the latest geographical information systems, a wide range of resources and independent research, you will examine the crucial issues facing our world right now. Geography explores the relationship between people, places and the environment. This course offers a wide variety of geographical topics including Changing Places, Global Governance and Hazard Management. You’ll build on aspects of GCSE Geography as well as study new topics from the new specification. There will be many fieldwork opportunities which will provide you with an excellent foundation upon which to produce your coursework. Geography naturally combines with a variety of other subjects and lessons are varied, providing a range of skills which are useful for both Higher Education and boosting employability. Structure On this course you will: – Examine crucial issues such as climate change and global inequality, using the latest geographical information systems and technology – Study the dynamic and ever-changing relationships between people, places and their environment – Analyse and understand a wide variety of topics such as Changing Places; Global Systems and Governance; Hazard Management and Contemporary Urban Environments – Complete fieldwork within a variety of different settings such as The Solent, The River Mole, Alton and Stratford to put classroom theory into action – Select an issue of personal interest to complete an investigation as part of your course with full support and mentoring from dedicated teachers
