ENGINEERING BTEC Extended Certificate Level 3 (=1 A Level)

Venue: Alton Campus Duration: 2 years

Teaching & Learning Your lessons will take place in the Sonardyne Centre, our well-equipped Engineering building. We have two workshops to deliver the practical mechanical aspects, equipped with traditional and automatic machines. We also have an electronics laboratory to learn the skills required in testing and measuring including Industry standard simulation software. We have well- equipped CAD classrooms again with industry standard software. Assessments One third of the course is assessed by an external exam, one third by controlled assessment and the final third by ongoing assignments. Entry Requirements Five GCSEs at grade 9-4. It is essential that you have gained at least grade 4 or above in both Mathematics and Science GCSE. Alternatively, if you have studied at Level 2, you should have achieved a Merit or above.

Overview Engineering has a hand in designing nearly everything you come into contact within your daily lives; homes, cars, computers, mobile phones and game consoles. This course will allow you to develop an understanding of engineering disciplines including how mechanical and electronic systems work, fabrication, machining and health & safety in the workplace. Structure On this Level 3 Extended Certificate, you will study: – Engineering Principles (examined) – Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely as a Team – Engineering Product Design & Manufacture (controlled assessment) – Fabrication Manufacturing processes – Gaining the ability to use tools and machines to manufacture components to a high standard – Using professional software to design and test electronic circuits as well as the practical measurement skills – Learning how to design outcomes to have a reduced impact on the environment – Planning, organising and reviewing your work on an ongoing basis
