MATHEMATICS GCSE

Venue: Alton Campus Duration: 2 years

Teaching & Learning Lesson activities are wide-ranging, from classroom discussions on how best to

mathematically model a situation, to practising problem-solving questions in pairs. You’ll use award-winning software in Century.tech on PCs to practice your skills and Kahoot quizzes on your smartphones to try and beat the rest of the class. The main aim of the course will be for you to gain a grade 4 (or 5), therefore the focus of the teaching will be at Foundation level. Past students have found the course very rewarding and at times, challenging. Different students enjoy varying parts of the course. The greatest pleasure comes from gaining confidence and realising you can do Maths! Assessment You will be assessed via exams, consisting of three papers of 1 hour 30 minutes. Progression Most Higher Education courses require GCSE Mathematics at grade 4. Many jobs will require grade 4 or higher in Mathematics and English. Entry Requirements Grade 3, 2 or 1 in GCSE Mathematics or Level 1 or 2 in Functional Skills Mathematics.

Overview This revision course gives you the chance to significantly enhance your Higher Education or career prospects. You will have to do this course if you have previously achieved a grade 3, 2 or 1 in Mathematics GCSE. The course develops your Mathematics skills in number, algebra, ratio and proportion, geometry, probability and statistics; you will be aiming for a grade 4 or 5. If you have a grade 2 or 1, you will do GCSE Mathematics over two years, with a long-term aim to gain a grade 4. Structure If you study Mathematics GCSE you will cover the following: – Number
