PHOENIX ENERGY GENERAL SALES MANAGER NEIL MCCRACKEN OFFERS AN UPDATE ON THE LATEST, AND FORTHCOMING, INITIATIVES ORGANISED BY THE NORTHERN IRELAND NETWORK GAS ASSOCIATION (NINGA)… Growing the number of customers connected to the gas network

Phoenix Energy’s Energy Advice Hub most recently visited Newtownards.

It’s hard to believe that summer has gone already, the kids are back to school and the darker nights are already beginning to roll in as we start to turn our attention to the upcoming winter period. In preparation for what is traditionally the busiest time of the year for those of us involved in the local gas industry, NINGA hosted the second of its trade show events at Titanic Hotel on September 3. Thank you to all of those who supported these new-look events this year, and I look forward to developing the format further next year. To understand how we can best support the local industry, we carried out some independent market research with our local installer network in April this year. That research highlighted the

importance of alternative engagement opportunities to ensure independent businesses are provided with a platform to share knowledge and are equipped with the most up-to-date information to continue to provide excellent service to their customers. Engaging with the local industry at smaller breakfast events has been very well received, and I look forward to hosting more throughout this year. Growing the number of connected customers remains our key focus and we continue to explore new ways to engage with households which have not yet considered switching. Our Energy Advice Hub has been busy over the last number of months, most recently in Newtownards at Conway Square, where locals had the opportunity

to show off their golf putting skills as they waited to talk to our expert energy advisors. The Hub will be in full swing from September as we reach out to households again in Newtownards, Lisburn, Larne and across the towns in our East Down network. To support these initiatives, there will be a number of bespoke incentives to help customers make the switch. Please make sure you check the NINGA portal for information on any available incentives. Finally, the Gala Ball event returns on Friday, November 28, where we will get the opportunity to get out of the work clothes and into the formal wear to be entertained by local talent as we reflect on the successes of many of those involved in the local industry.

Comprising a two-storey living area, swimming pool and adjoining holiday let annex, the barn conversion project presented several plumbing and heating challenges.

Wavin Underfloor Heating System.

PLUMBING AND HEATING SYSTEMS INSTALLED IN THIS PRIVATE BARN CONVERSION COMPLETED IN 2024 INCLUDE THE WAVIN AS+, WAVIN COMFIA UNDERFLOOR HEATING AND WAVIN K5/M5…

Wavin delivers excellence in a rural barn conversion project

WAVIN COMFIA UFH was used throughout the property, removing any need for unsightly radiators. Wavin offers different system types including: • System plates: Plastic sheets with pre-formed grips hold the pipe in position, laid on top of insulation panels before the floor is screeded. • Staple & Rail: Comprising of 1m penta rails fixed directly to the rigid insulation using track rail staples. A simple and effective guidance system for ease of installation of the UFH pipe along with 40mm or 60mm staples which are also used to fix the UFH pipe. • Lowbuild 18: A low build x flooring solution, 18mm in depth which takes a 12mm pipe. Channels are pre-grooved with correct spacing to allow the laying of an underfloor system on top of an existing floor. WAVIN K5/M5 being used on the project solved many challenges. Air pressure testing means hot and cold feeds aren’t filled with water, potentially sitting unused for lengthy periods of time. Plus, air testing enables unique leak detection with acoustic alert to detect unpressed fittings. The IN4Sure 360 feature gives peace of mind to the installer and saves time on complex projects. For a homeowner undertaking an extensive barn conversion project comprising a two-storey living area, swimming pool and adjoining holiday let annex, the build presented several plumbing and heating challenges. Wavin worked alongside the project manager to find solutions for this unique build. THE CHALLENGES • The barn shared the same building as the annex, and the owner didn’t want to intrude on holidaymakers with excess noise from the soil system. • The owner wanted a clean aesthetic for the barn conversion. • The build was completed over an extended period, which could have led to a build-up of stagnant water in the pipes, or water freezing during cold spells. THE SOLUTIONS WAVIN AS+ is the perfect solution to noisy pipes, providing a sound-insulating soil and waste piping system, suitable for drainage of hot and cold wastewater. Wavin AS+ is ideal when noise reduction is key. Its unique material composition delivers perfect sound absorption, and its blue seal shape guarantees leak-free, failure-proof installation.

improved flow and can be pressed with multiple pressing profiles. Speaking about the project, the owner said, “During the construction of my home, the project manager introduced me to Wavin’s Underfloor Heating System. My plumber appreciated the ease of installation, particularly noting the convenience of the 500m uninterrupted runs, which significantly expedited the installation process of the pipework. The quality of the system has left a lasting impression on me. “Throughout the duration of the project, Wavin consistently demonstrated a professional and knowledgeable demeanour. I am confident in Wavin’s commitment to customer support in the future.” To find out more about the products mentioned, or any of Wavin’s plumbing and heating range, visit Wavin on stand 31 at Plumbex or go to www.wavin.ie

WITH AN EXPANDED TEAM AND €200 REFERRAL FEE FOR PLUMBERS IN PLACE, THE DUBLIN-BASED BUSINESS IS PRIMED FOR ITS NEXT PHASE OF EXPANSION… Property Claims Loss Assessors celebrates its 10th anniversary Property Claims Loss Assessors (PCLA) Ltd is marking a decade of trading by investing in the future. The Dublin-based business has boosted its referral fee for plumbers responding to emergency callouts to €200, expanded its team of loss assessors and implemented a new customer relationship management (CRM) system. PCLA partners Peter Mulvaney and Dean McLoughlin are both qualified building surveyors who have worked in loss assessment since leaving college and collectively offer more than 40 years of experience in the insurance industry. Its client base spans much of the Republic of Ireland, including the west coast from Donegal to Cork, the Midlands and the east coast including Dublin and Wexford. Plumbers across the country responding to emergency callouts can now top up their income with €200 per referral leading to a successful claim. After confirming a policy and valid claim is in place, PCLA pays the fee to plumbers upfront. “Once we have signed up the client, our office will send €200 directly to the plumber making the referral,” says Peter. “They get paid at the start of the process and don’t need to wait for claims to settle. “For plumbers, it’s a no brainer. They’re going out and getting paid to fix a leak and, on top of their callout charge, they’re getting an extra €200 so it’s a nice extra income for them. I was just speaking to one plumber who has earned an additional €1,800 just from passing on jobs to us; it can all add up.” With business steadily growing, PCLA has added two new skilled loss assessors to its team, which now totals six assessors plus office staff. And it has introduced a new premium customer service offer after investing in a CRM system. “Our new in-house CRM system updates the clients

at all stages of the process, so there’s nobody left wondering what’s going on behind the scenes,” says Peter. “We’re with them every step of the way from the moment they contact us, keeping them in the loop from start to finish. “What we had found was that loss assessment and insurance companies were falling down on the customer service side of things, so we made it our number one priority to extend a premium service to our clients.” “We’ve a very good reputation built up over the last 10 years, and we’re just looking forward to keeping it for the next 10 years.” PLUMBER REFERRALS “Claims are our forte - just being able to assess the situation and pinpoint exactly what is damaged,” says Peter. “We’ll do a moisture survey to show to the insurance company, as they wouldn’t have our technical background. “That’s why it’s important for any policy holder to have someone like us involved; we can really maximise their claim and get their true payout.” With policy holders often facing an excess payment and potential loss of their no claims bonus, insurance claims are only worthwhile for damage totalling at least €2,000 but can run into the millions, says Peter. Clients include bars, restaurants and large commercial premises but most of its business comes from domestic residences. Residential claims typically average at least €10,000 but can easily reach €200,000 for serious damage requiring a complete strip out. Claims against third party manufacturers supplying faulty water pumps and fittings are common, and PCLA has on occasion represented plumbers subject to overzealous claims by policyholders. But its partnership with plumbers is more often a simple process of referral, assessment and successful claim. “If a plumber is interested in making a referral, we’ll have a chat and go through the whole process with them,” says Peter. “Basically, they’re the first person on site and their priority is to fix a leak and prevent any further damage and, once that’s done, they can have a chat with the client.” If the client wishes to pursue an insurance claim, the plumber can make a referral on a no-win, no-fee basis. PCLA will then have a chat with the client, assess the situation and determine if both parties are happy to go ahead with the loss assessment.

“We’ve a very good reputation built up over the last 10 years, and we’re just looking forward to keeping it for the next 10 years.”

C&F Quadrant has supplied two ACV HeatMaster® 120 TC Evo tank-in- tank, gas-fired combination boilers and integrated water heaters to St Ronan’s College. With a reputation for supplying high-quality, innovative products, C&F Quadrant’s partnerships include ACV, which has been designing, manufacturing and distributing engineering solutions for hot water generation in commercial and residential heating applications since 1922. A specialist in stainless steel, which resists corrosion of aggressive water to create products with a long lifespan requiring minimal maintenance, ACV’s HeatMaster TC Evo has been developed with installers and end users in mind. When it comes to performance, efficiency and space saving, tank-in-tank systems typically outperform traditional coil installation. HeatMaster TC boilers offer exceptional efficiency and are designed to cope with the hot water demands of larger buildings such as St Ronan’s College.

Benefits include mains pressure hot water delivery which is unrivalled in a boiler of this output, generating high volumes, fast recovery times and quick response to demand.
