Shanganagh Castle Estate is the first development backed by the Land Development Agency (LDA), established by the Irish Government to increase the supply of affordable housing. The project comprises 51 houses, 546 apartments, a crèche and play area, retail units and other community facilities, creating a sustainable and affordable neighbourhood. It was delivered in collaboration with Dún Laoghaire– Rathdown County Council, with Walls Construction as main contractor. M&P Mechanical was awarded the mechanical contract to supply, install and commission all mechanical systems for the development. Works commenced in September 2022 and reached completion in August 2025, delivered across three carefully-sequenced phases to ensure efficient commissioning, seamless services integration and a smooth efficient handover. This landmark project delivers a state-
of-the-art district heating network, designed to provide reliable, efficient and sustainable energy to 546 new homes. From a central energy centre through to individual apartments, the system ensures residents enjoy consistent space heating and instant hot water with maximum comfort and minimal environmental impact. At the heart of the network is a high- performance Solid Energy AWB200Sp air-to-water heat pump, capable of generating up to 725kW of renewable heat, even in temperatures as low as –10°C. To guarantee year-round reliability, the system is supported by Ideal Evomod high-efficiency gas boilers, delivering an additional 1,500kW with seasonal efficiencies of up to 95%. Each home is equipped with a Danfoss Heat Interface Unit (HIU), ensuring residents benefit from on-demand heating and hot water while reducing individual maintenance needs. With a
