REPRESENTING THE FIRST INSTALLATION OF ITS KIND IN EUROPE, MCCOOL CONTROLS HAS DEPLOYED A BESPOKE COOLSÚIL-IOT PRIVATE NETWORK AT SHANGANAGH CASTLE ESTATE… BUILDING & ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
A master system integrator, the Dublin firm understands the immense value smart building technology can bring to clients. Developing bespoke solutions that not only meet their needs but add value to their operations, McCool Controls innovates to make buildings great. “This solution leads the market, both nationally and continentally, and it’s a great feeling to know we designed and delivered it.”
McCool Controls was tasked with supplying and installing building and energy management systems at Shanganagh Castle Estate. As LDA’s first development using state lands, including a commitment to affordable housing, McCool Controls was required to deliver a system controlling and monitoring a multitude of plant and equipment while minimising infrastructure and cabling. Eoin McCool, Managing Director, says, “We set out to deliver, with the support of M&P Mechanical and the entire project team, an innovative IoT solution that greatly reduced the overall electrical infrastructure and BMS panels.” McCool Controls deployed a bespoke CoolSúil-IoT private network, the first of its kind in Europe. It controls and monitors key plant and equipment throughout the campus and is adaptable to add any wireless IoT sensory or control equipment in the future. “The network is designed specifically for
this site, and the CoolSúil-IoT devices and control enclosures are bespoke to suit each individual plant location,” says Eoin. “Plant and equipment controlled and monitored via the wireless system include MVHR units, heating services, booster sets, water tanks, comms rooms, water and energy metering and sprinkler plant, as well as all energy centre plant on a conventional BMS with optimised heat source management.” Offering a challenge to the team as an innovative project using cutting-edge technology, a further standout feature was diversity with women representing 60% of the senior project team. “Mark O’Rourke and his team at M&P are always committed to quality, organised and professional and at the same time maintain an enjoyable and friendly working environment,” says Eoin. “This solution leads the market, both nationally and continentally, and it’s a great feeling to know we designed and delivered it.”
