New Power Center Model A Hit With Over-The-Road Drivers
Our Power Centers are a great resource for our over-the-road drivers, giving them access to safe parking and creating more career opportunities in places we may not otherwise have a facility. We currently have 22 Power Centers throughout our network, and we recently opened a new one in Bessemer, AL. That facility has proved to be a big hit with our driving force. Much like our Driver Support Centers that are attached to LTL
facilities, this 2,000-square-foot stand-alone building features bathrooms, vending and ice machines, showers, a lounge with a TV and recliners, and a microwave and full-size refrigerator. Additionally, it will soon have Wi-Fi access and rocking chairs for the covered front porch. “The drivers love it,” says Driver Support Specialist GLENN SONNIER , who drove for our team for 11 years and
GLENN SONNIER was a member of our Driver Advisory Council before moving into his current role. “They can take their 34-hour break or their 10-hour break. We have all the amenities they need. The drivers really appreciate it, they’re taking care of it, and they take pride in it.” Director of Driver Services DAVID BROYLES adds that the location and security are big pluses. “It’s quiet, and you need a code to get in and out,” DAVID BROYLES David explains. “It’s less than a mile from the interstate, and there is ample parking in the yard. So they can get on and off the interstate, or if they’re spending the night, they don’t have to waste any time on their clock.” David says he’s been asked whether there will be more facilities like Bessemer
