CUSTOMER SURVEY SAYS ... 1,400-Plus Shippers Share Their Thoughts On 2024 Expectations
Shippers’ thoughts boiled down to four major themes: a better outlook for 2024, the continued rise of e-commerce, growth of nearshoring to North America, and a focus on sustainability. A PROMISING OUTLOOK Following a year that saw several major industry players close their doors (Yellow, Convoy and others), more than 67% of shippers anticipate moving more freight in 2024 than they did in 2023. This marked a 4% gain over last year’s survey, and it’s a sign that customers will be relying on our team even more to deliver award-winning service in 2024. CYBER SHOPPING As e-commerce sales continue to grow – revenue in the U.S. could surpass $1 trillion this In what has become a yearly tradition, we recently surveyed more than 1,400 shippers about their expectations for the transportation industry in 2024. The result was our ninth annual State of the North American Supply Chain Survey.
year – businesses are focusing more on final mile services. These tend to include residential deliveries for large and oversized products that cannot be moved by traditional parcel services (e.g. furniture, office equipment, medical devices). We’re proud to offer Final Mile services, working with strategic partners to open the door to more opportunities with customers that otherwise might not be available. CROSS-BORDER SOLUTIONS Fueled by the passage of the United States- Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement and international concerns in recent years, many businesses have moved their supply chain operations back to North America. Mexico is a key player for these moves, making cross-border solutions an increasingly important part of shippers’ strategy. And because
of our infrastructure on the border, we’re well positioned to take advantage of these opportunities. ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS More businesses are focusing their efforts on reducing their impact on the environment. In fact, a whopping 83% of those surveyed said sustainability is of high or medium importance. Just 17% said it was of low importance. One way we’re connecting with customers is by sharing in their goals for sustainability – you can see our team’s efforts at Averitt.com/Green. As we move into 2024, we’re working with our customers to meet their needs and show The Power of One so we can create more bills throughout our network.
