accomplished. A Language Committee, headed by a professor of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, subjects the literature of former centuries to a sys tematic examination, in order to dis cover and resurrect the lost vocabulary. "The possession of a common lang uage was, indeed, the only possible means of welding into a homogeneous national unit the immigrants flocking from all countries into Palestine. . . . Hebrew is today one of the official languages of Palestine; English and Arabic are the other two.” n . O utside the W alls Jerusalem now has a population of 150,000 and is being built along the exact lines prophesied in Jeremiah 31. In Zechariah 2:4 we read, “Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cat tle therein.” In the - present time we have a most remarkable foreshadowing of the fulfillment of these prophecies. All the new buildings have been put up to the north and northwest of the old city [which is still walled], and no wails are being built to enclose them. Jeru salem is now inhabited as "towns with out walls.” . . . Thus is prophecy being fulfilled before our eyes.—F. C. Imhof. Questions for Discussion 1. Why is Israel in its present diffi culty? Study Psalm 106. 2. Did God warn Israel of the danger of backsliding? (Deut. 28). 3. Study Deuteronomy 28:64-68 and compare it with the present European situation. 4. How does the study of prophecy affect you personally? 5. What should be our attitude now toward the Jews? (Romans 10:1). 6. What is wrong with prayers that merely ask for peace? (Prov. 1:25; Ezra 9:6, 7; Dan. 9:5, 11, 16; Neh. 1:4-11). 7. H a v e any prophecies failed ? (Josh. 23:14; Lk. 24:44; 2 Pet. 3:3, 4, 9). JANUARY 28, 1940 NEW WAYS AND NEW OPPOR TUNITIES FOR WITNESSING A cts 1:8; 8:4, 26-40; 21:40 to 22:23; ,28:30, 31 Meditation on the Lesson The disciples were talking to their adored risen Lord very earnestly. Hav ing seen Him on the cross and having felt the anguish of separation as He was lying in the tomb, they.were over joyed to have Him restored to their fellowship. To their questions He re-, plied, “It is not for you to know” the answer concerning the time of estab lishing the kingdom—“but ye shall re ceive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be wit nesses unto, me . . . ” (Acts 1:8). Note that they were to “receive power.” They became “new” disciples 1 i

The greatest proof of the Inspiration of the Bible is the startling way prophecies have been fulfilled in min utest detail. In The Witness of the Psalms, Dr. Alexander, scholarly stu dent, has given us six tests to apply to predictive prophecy to .prove its truth: (1) Known promulgation prior to the event. (2) Sufficiency of correspondence between prediction and result. (3) Chronological or moral remoteness in the date or nature of the event. (4) Non-isolation, but connected. (5) Parsi monious but characteristic particularity. (6) Worthiness of spiritual purpose. How marvelously present-day fulfill ment of ages-old prophecy meets these tests! Look-at these: “Wars and rumors of wars. . . . For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. . . . And because iniquity shall abound the love of many shall wax cold” (Matt. 24:6, 7, 12). Jesus Christ spoke these words two thousand years ago. Listen to the radio and read your daily paper to see the fulfillment. “Nation shall rise against nation.” Whole nations — not merely political leaders and armies—are being “re cruited” and regimented in a manner never employed before, even in the con flict of 1914 to 1918. Head Ezekiel 38 and 39 considering the view of many students that "Gog . . . the prince of Rosh” (38:2, R. V.) is Russia and that Gomer (v. 6) is Ger many. (Louis S. Bauman’s article, “The German-Russian Alliance” in the No vember KING’S BUSINESS treats this subject more extensively.) This alliance, unlikely though it seemed at the begin ning of 1939, is one of the most remark able developments of the past year. 1 Investigate the subject of Bible prophecy! And as the evidence of the faithfulness of God’s Word heaps up, you will rejoice in the “sure word of prophecy,” Helps for the Leader I. R esurrection of a L anguage '' “For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with one consent” (Zeph. 3:9). This promise of the Lord occurs in the midst of a prophetic passage dealing with His judgments upon the nations, to be followed by blessing and peace for Israel. In recent years language unification of Israel has begun, as is described by Hugo' Bergman in the News Bulletins of the Institute of Inter national Education: “The1 Hebrew language-—which for over twenty centuries had been no more than the language of the Book, a dead language—has now awakened to a new life and has become one of the most interesting phenomena of the new Jew ish Palestine . . . “In this field, in the course of one generation, a gigantic task has been
