to righteousness as they themselves find in the Christ of the gospel both the ideals and the power for reform. It is my personal opinion that if^our Lord shall tarry, in the next few years, as the fruit of a great spiritual awak ening, Mexico is going to show the world a new ■ type of Christianity, the old and simple teachings of Christ ap plied to a new age in a new and re freshing way which will focus its em

greatest contribution from the spiritual standpoint which could possibly be made to any tribe was to give it at least portions of the Bible in its own tongue, and therefore it determined to turn out as many translations of this Book as possible, along with the dictionaries, grammars and primers. Once produced, the Indian Scriptures were to be made available to any organization that wanted to use them, whether an evan gelical mission or the Roman Catholic Church, should that body choose to re vert to- the methods employed by the great friar, Bartolomé de las Casas and other friends of the Indians among the Catholic missionaries of the sixteenth century who taught the people in their own tongues. To the credit of the Government of Mexico it must be said that it and cer tain scientific groups in Mexico were the first to come to the support of the visionary young linguistic investigators who had landed in their midst with little more to their credit than zeal, preparation, and faith in the promises of God. The group has had unusual oppor tunities to see true conditions in Mex ico. They have traveled far and wide safely. They have watched new schools, hospitals, light and power plants and water works being erected in towns long forgotten. They have seen hitherto isolated regions opened up by new high ways, and they have rejoiced to see great campaigns organized by the Gov ernment under the leadership of out standing linguists to teach the illiterate masses and particularly the Indians to read and write. The Responsibility of the United States Just how far should Christians in the United States go in helping in Mexico’s crusade for social and economic jus tice ? Christ taught with crystaline clarity to love your neighbor as your self. We Americans have failed most miserably to do this as regards Mexico in the past. There is much that Ameri can Christians could do to rectify the situation, but will they do it? Some are organizing what is called the Inter- American Fellowship, in an effort to show the spirit of Christ toward all Latin America, but it is a question just how far this highly commendable un dertaking will get. I wonder how many readers of this article will take the trouble to send in a p o s t a l card for information. The world is at war and prospects do not look encouraging for those who raise the banner of love in this epoch of force, hate, and greed. I seriously doubt whether Mexico will ever care much for our gospel unless we translate it into terms of love and service. If we do that, some of Mexico’s great leaders \Hill not only accept it,' but will come also to proclaim it in such a way as to turn thousands in Mexico
