ARE YOU CREATING NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS?
3 Books That Helped Me Stick to My Goals
As we come out of the season of thanks and giving and move into the season of renewal, many of us are creating goals for the new year. Several years ago I started carving out a chunk of time during this period to reflect, renew, and prepare for the year ahead. I reread three books that help set my intention, create actionable steps to achieve my goals, and help me stay organized. Some have asked why I reread the same books every year, and my answer is simple — when you’re in different phases of your life, your perspectives might change. Other things may resonate with you when you’re in a different mindset and using another lens. It’s like rewatching a movie. When you watch it for the second, third, or fourth time, you already know the outcome, who the characters are, and what the plot is. But you may notice some things you didn’t catch when you previously watched it. Each time I reread my end-of-year books, I always find something new that stands out or resonates with me. Before creating the tradition of rereading certain books, I had difficulty sticking to my goals, but with new insight, I accomplish and sometimes surpass my goals.
While you may be motivated at the beginning of the year to follow through with your resolutions, sticking to them all year can be challenging if you don’t have an in-depth strategy outlined. So today, I want to share with you the three books that helped me accomplish my goals. Perhaps, they can help you on your journey. ‘START WITH WHY: HOW GREAT LEADERS INSPIRE EVERYONE TO TAKE ACTION’ — SIMON SINEK I knew that setting your intentions and understanding why you want to accomplish something
helps you stay on task and accomplish your objectives more efficiently. I’ve been creating quarterly goals since I read this book, and it helps me to hold myself accountable — I’ve also accomplished more because of it. ‘GETTING THINGS DONE’ — DAVID ALLEN Like many of you, I wear many hats and take on various responsibilities. It can be difficult to prioritize certain things, which can lead to overlooking certain tasks or becoming overwhelmed. “Getting Things Done” taught
me how to organize different roles in my

While it’s difficult to begin with why, because of the reflection you must do beforehand, it has helped me immensely when creating my goals. ‘THE 12 WEEK YEAR’ — BRIAN P. MORAN AND MICHAEL LENNINGTON Sometimes creating yearly goals is hard to follow because of the loose deadline — you have all year to accomplish something, so it may take a backseat since it’s not a high priority. “The 12 Week Year” talks about why creating 12-week or quarterly goals

I hope these books can help you find your intentions, create quarterly, bite-sized goals, and organize your time properly. Let’s make 2023 the year of progress and improvement!
Happy New Year, everyone!

TANNER SINGLETON, JUNIOR FINANCIAL ADVISOR STAFF SPOTLIGHT:
When did you start working here, and how is your role evolving? I began working here in September 2021. When I first started, my workday consisted of making outbound calls to current clients and prospects. I made confirmation calls for our weekly webinars and assisted with scheduling on Greg’s calendar. Since then, I’ve passed the Series 65 exam and have become a licensed financial advisor. Now, I’m able to help clients more directly. Right now, I meet with clients about our Debt Free 4 Life program and our Retirement Roadmap program. I also help prepare applications, insurance assessments, and taxes. What would you say to someone hesitant to start financial planning? Having a financial expert on your side can make a huge difference in terms of you reaching your long- and short-term goals. Having a financial advocate on your side not only can make you more successful, but it also makes a difference in the lives of your partner, your children, and your grandchildren. What is your favorite part of your job? My favorite part of my job is helping people turn their fears and unknowns about their finances into confidence and knowledge. I really enjoy working with Greg to provide personalized and excellent financial advice to our clients.

Make 2023 Your Best Year Yet: Financial Planning Tips for Achieving Your New Year’s Resolutions
Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful holiday season. Now that the new year is here, it’s time to start thinking about your resolutions. If one of your resolutions is to get your finances in order, we can help! Our financial planning experts are here to help you achieve your goals and make this your best year yet. We can help you save more, spend less, become debt-free, retire comfortably, and finally get your estate planning documents in order. So, what are your goals for 2023? I WANT TO SAVE MORE MONEY AND SPEND LESS MONEY. The best way to spend less money is not by restricting your lifestyle, it’s by tackling debt and taxes instead. Did you know that, on average, 40% of a person’s income goes to taxes?!! And another 25% goes to paying off debt. That’s a lot of money that could be shifted to savings if you had an effective financial plan in place. Our team of financial advocates can help you reduce your taxes, eliminate debt faster, and put more money into savings. Are you looking to save for retirement, your child’s education, or to build a legacy for your family? Whatever the reason, we can help you reach those goals. I WANT TO FINALLY PAY OFF MY DEBT. Debt, and in particular the interest you pay on it, can quickly prevent you from growing and accumulating wealth. If you stay awake at night stressing about your mortgage and student loans, you’re not alone.
Maybe you’re close to paying off your loans and credit cards, and that’s great! You’ve surely worked hard to do that. But what happens when you need a new car or a bigger house for your family, or when a medical emergency happens? You’re right back in debt … again. And you’re back to paying ridiculously high interest rates … again. What if you could eliminate debt faster while saving for your future, so you’re never in debt again? Our Debt Free 4 Life process allows you to do just that. It involves restructuring your bill payments and savings strategy without negatively impacting your lifestyle. The best way to find out what’s possible in your situation is to use your own information. Go to smartadvisorcolumbus.com to use our debt calculator and find out what your debt- free future could look like. A team member will follow up with you and schedule a brief conversation. Just a few minutes of your time could save you thousands of dollars. I WANT TO RETIRE THIS YEAR. If you’re looking to retire within the next few years, you should be focused on protecting the nest egg you’ve built for yourself. That nest egg will determine not only how you’ll sustain yourself during retirement, but also how much of a legacy you can leave for family and charities. Unfortunately, many retirees are shocked to find that their nest eggs have been significantly eroded by taxes and inflation.

3 Ways to Better Manage Your Money Don’t Forget About Your Financial Goals!
3. LOOK INTO YOUR TAX RECORDS AND PREPARE FOR THE UPCOMING TAX SEASON. Have you looked into the recent tax changes? Have you taken your charitable donations, employment, and even your children’s schooling into account? If not, now is the time to do so before filing your taxes. You never know what can be a tax write-off or the many ways you can save unless you look into the regulations and review your documents. These steps will help you focus on your financial wellness and make strides toward your financial goals. If you have questions about how to prioritize your financial wealth and goals, allow your friends at DuPont Wealth Solutions to help. We will be more than happy to sit down with you and discuss your wants and needs and see what avenue is best for you.
A new year brings a fresh start and new opportunities. As you reflect on the past year and begin creating your goals for 2023, don’t forget about your finances. Focusing on your finances is imperative because the decisions you make now about how you want to manage your money will affect you in the future. So, in honor of January being Financial Wellness Month, here are three strategies you can use to improve your finances for the new year.
modifications now will help prepare you and your family for anything that comes your way. 2. INCREASE YOUR SAVINGS ACCOUNT AND OTHER FUNDS BY 1%. If you have retirement plans, emergency funds, or savings accounts, try to increase the amount of money you put in these accounts by one percent. While it may not seem like much, if you were to increase the amount you put into your savings by one percent every year, your wealth would exponentially increase within a few years. We can’t predict the future, but we can be prepared for it. Adding more to your savings, emergency, and retirement accounts will give you peace of mind because you know that you have money that can help you when needed.
1. REVIEW YOUR BUDGET.
A lot can change in a year. Therefore, it’s essential to revisit your budget and see if there are any adjustments you need to make. Look over your financial goals and see if there is anything you can improve upon, remove, or add. After updating your goals, review your monthly expenses and income, and see if there are any expenses that you can modify or live without. Making these

Throughout winter, we have the opportunity to participate in many activities that are only possible during this season. We can ski, snowboard, snowshoe, sled, and more. While some people fly south for winter vacations to escape the cold weather, others travel to extraordinary winter destinations within our country. Plenty of
options are available if you’re looking for a truly unique experience this winter. Here are three winter activities that will leave you with long-lasting memories. SNOWMOBILE TOURS IN ALASKA Alaska is one of America’s hidden gems, even though it’s the biggest U.S. state. If you’re looking for unique winter experiences, you’ll want to visit Alaska. One of the coolest adventures you can experience is a snowmobile tour. You can hop aboard a snowmobile and ride the same path as the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race or visit some beautiful mountains and glaciers. Many of these tours will lead you right past moose, bears, and caribou as you take in the beauty of Alaska’s environment.
it’s no surprise they have some amazing cold weather activities to showcase. A truly exceptional experience is skating on Mirror Lake. They have a 2-mile-long ice track where you can test your speed and areas for people to skate openly or play a game of ice hockey. You can even participate in dog sledding there. It’s a beautiful area filled with various winter activities. ICE FISHING EXCURSIONS IN BRAINERD, MINNESOTA While fishing might be more commonly known as a spring or summer activity, you can get plenty of fishing done in the winter if you know where to go. Brainerd is considered one of the best places to visit for ice fishing enthusiasts. There are over 300 fishing lakes near the city, and you can expect to catch bluegill, walleye, largemouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike, and many others. If you like to fish throughout the year, check out Brainerd.
