Five years passed. I never had enough money, I never got a day off, and I couldn’t take a sick day. Finally, around Christmas, I felt really homesick because I hadn’t seen my family in years. So, to take my mind
to do something for them first. They relied on me. So I got back in touch with my enroller, and he flew to Houston for my presentation. My friends and I enrolled almost immediately. Then we started calling everyone we knew. At our first presentation, there were 38 people. I told everyone who came, “If you want to do this, I will help you advance to Director.” I started holding trainings daily, sometimes even twice a day. By the end of that first month, my team and I had enrolled over 450 new customers. I was shocked when I got that first check. I thought that Melaleuca had made a mistake. My enroller took the time to explain Melaleuca’s Compensation Plan. Unlike the MLM companies I had worked for, Melaleuca customers order monthly and
off it, I asked my roommates how long they had worked multiple jobs and slept on the floor. Everyone’s answer was the same: over 15 years. I didn’t want to be like that. I moved to California soon after that. I tried to find a different line of work. I found a “marketing” opportunity listed in the newspaper. In the presentation, they said I would get paid to sell products, and if I brought in someone else, I would make money off their sales. They tried to draw me in with the promise of making lots of money. I didn’t know it then, but it was an MLM, and it quickly got shut down. Soon, a pattern emerged. I would join another company and start making money, and suddenly they would go out of business or be shut down. Then I tried to start my own company, but it didn’t go well. I spent the next few years with different companies or attempting to start my own, but it was always so uncertain. I watched many of my friends get rich quick, and then I watched them lose it all. And I was doing all the same things. I tried twelve different companies

to stop calling. He didn’t. He would call me to tell me how much he was making. I wanted him to fail just like I had, but Melaleuca kept growing.
