I’m going to say, and getting into the zone—because once I’m out there, I don’t want anything holding me back. Q: There’s a certain ripple effect of energy throughout Melaleuca. It’s positive and infectious. It feels like thriving. Where does that come from? A: Early on, Eddie Bestoso asked me, “What’s your why ?” And he said, “It can’t be about money. It has to be something in your gut, something that gets you up in the morning.” Now, that question didn’t put me off because I’ve never particularly cared about being rich. I’m more focused on peace of mind and living debt-free. So I told him that. I told him that I knew that Melaleuca would give me that; and all these years later, it has. I’m 54 and my husband just turned 60, and we don’t have to work anymore. We’re set for life. But we love what we do and we have so much fun doing it, so why stop? We’re still out here saying, “Okay, who can we help next?” I think that’s the energy you’re talking about. Most of us truly, genuinely love what we do. I look back at my early days with the company, and in some ways it feels like we paved the road—driving everywhere for our appointments, sitting in people’s living rooms five or six nights a week, talking to five or ten people at a time. Now people can just walk to their laptop. It’s a different job. But the heart of it is the same: meeting people, building teams, and showing them how to create their own happiness.
