STYCCOBOND F40 High Tack Dual Bond Adhesive
FEATURES • Provides a quick peelable release option for carpet and underlay systems • Suitable with underfloor heating • Solvent free • Approved for marine use
INTRODUCTION STYCCOBOND F40 is a water based, pressure sensitive adhesive that dries to form a transparent, permanently tacky coating and should be used to provide a peelable bond for release underlays. It can also be used as a permanent or release bond adhesive when fixing carpets. The type of bond achieved is dependent on when the floorcovering is laid into the adhesive. Laying the floorcovering into the adhesive once it has dried enables the underlay or carpet to be lifted when required, without significant damage to either floorcovering or subfloor. Laying the floorcovering into wet adhesive will give a permanent bond. STYCCOBOND F40 can be used for securing a wide range of carpets which include those with felt, secondary, unitary and many other backings. It is also suitable for fixing certain release underlays which have been specifically developed for release bonding with twin stick carpet installations. See the F. Ball Recommended Adhesives Guide for details of specific floorcoverings. STYCCOBOND F40 can be applied to STOPGAP smoothing compounds, structurally sound, smooth, dry subfloors of concrete and sand/cement screed, calcium sulphate screeds, plywood, flooring grade chipboard and hardboard. STYCCOBOND F40 can be applied directly to non-absorbent subfloors such as STOPGAP epoxy resin waterproof surface membranes, Corrosion Treated Steel, Terrazzo, and Granolithic Tiles. Sound flooring grade asphalt must be skimmed with a minimum of 3mm of the appropriate STOPGAP smoothing compound.
STANDARDS All aspects of the installation of floorcoverings should be in accordance with the requirements of the relevant
British Standard Code of Practice i.e. BS 5325 (Installation of textile floorcoverings) and supplementary specifications.
Tested in accordance with IMO FTP Code procedures, STYCCOBOND F40 is in compliance with the Merchant Shipping (Marine Equipment) Regulations 2016, S.I. 2016/1025, and the Marine Equipment Directive 2014/90/EU, and approved for use as an adhesive for flooring applications only.

STYCCOBOND F40 is suitable for use over normal underfloor heating installations. For details on other subfloors, contact our Technical Service Department. SURFACE PREPARATION Proper subfloor preparation is essential for the correct installation of any floorcovering. Subfloors must be structurally sound, smooth, dry (<75% RH) and free from laitance and any contaminants which will affect adhesion. Use STYCCOCLEAN C140 for removing grease, oil, polish, soap etc. from non-absorbent substrates. Concrete and sand/cement screeds must be fully cured and any laitance or surface treatments must be removed. The temperature of the floor must be maintained above 10°C throughout the application and drying of the adhesive. Underfloor heating must be off for at least 48 hours before, during and after application. For detailed information, request the F. Ball Subfloor Preparation Guide . DAMP SUBFLOORS The relative humidity (RH) of the subfloor can be measured using the F. Ball Digital Hygrometer. Where the RH value is greater than 75% the appropriate STOPGAP waterproof surface membrane should be applied. SMOOTHING To ensure a level surface on which to adhere to, uneven and irregular surfaces should be suitably prepared using the appropriate STOPGAP smoothing compounds. PRIMING Highly absorbent subfloors such as sand/ cement screeds and plywood etc. may cause rapid drying of the adhesive, thus reducing the open time. Use STOPGAP P131 diluted 4 parts of water and stir until thoroughly dispersed. This should be allowed to dry thoroughly before proceeding with the installation. Dry and suitably prepared calcium sulphate screeds e.g. anhydrite must be primed with neat STOPGAP P121. ADHESIVE APPLICATION STIR WELL BEFORE USE Peelable bond - carpets - Holding the notched trowel at an angle of 60°, apply the adhesive evenly to the subfloor. Allow the adhesive to dry completely to a clear tacky coating before laying the carpet. Following the carpet manufacturers instructions, lay the floorcovering and press from the centre outwards to exclude air and then apply pressure by rolling with a 68kg flooring roller,
from end-to-end and side-to-side. Peelable bond - underlays - Apply the adhesive to the subfloor using the notched trowel as specified by the underlay manufacturer. Allow the adhesive to dry completely to a clear tacky coating before laying the underlay. Following the underlay manufacturers instructions, lay the material and press from the centre outwards to exclude air and then apply pressure using the STYCCOBOND GLYDA or soft bristle broom to ensure overall adhesion. The carpet can then be permanently bonded to the underlay immediately, with the recommended adhesive using normal installation techniques. Permanent bond - carpets - Holding the notched trowel at an angle of 60°, apply the adhesive evenly to the subfloor. Leave the adhesive open for 10-15 minutes before laying the carpet. Following the carpet manufacturers instructions, lay the floorcovering and press from the centre outwards to exclude air and then apply pressure by rolling with a 68kg flooring roller, from end to end and side to side. It may be necessary to re-roll the carpet 30 minutes later, depending on conditions, to ensure overall adhesion is maintained. PRECAUTIONS If a peelable bond is specified do not lay the underlay or carpet before the adhesive has completely dried as this will impair its release and may result in a permanent bond being formed. Do not allow loading/trafficking until all adhesives used in twin stick carpet adhesive installations have fully set. Carpet and underlay to be acclimatised strictly in accordance with manufacturers instructions. Not all carpets are suitable for use over release underlay systems, check with the carpet manufacturer before proceeding. Do not apply the adhesive too thinly as this will reduce adhesion. We would suggest that carpets are best maintained using dry cleaning methods in preference to wet extraction, thus avoiding potential for damage to the adhesive bond caused by excessive use of cleaning fluids.
