Lalitha Benjaram started as an Engineer-In-Training in the Water Resources group at Mead & Hunt. She was involved with the company’s formal diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) efforts from the start, which included the formation of an Employee Resource Group (ERG) in 2018. Over the next few years Lalitha gradually transitioned to leading the ERG full- time to advance her company’s DEIB efforts, which is where she found her true passion. As the ERG Program Coordinator, Lalitha works to ensure an environment that is inclusive of all employees. She also helps strategize recruitment and outreach efforts to diversify the talent pool for Mead & Hunt, as well as the AEC industry overall. Lalitha has a passion for encouraging and supporting underrepresented groups to improve the diversity of the next generation of the AEC industry. This passion was shaped by her experience as a minority in her engineering classes in college, where she studied Civil and Environmental Engineering.
