in Sars!eld on the edge of Ottawa’s rural district, collecting donations of food items or cash for community Christmas hamper programs. In Wendover and Bourget, the local Chevaliers de Colomb took charge of the guignolées, while in Sars!eld it was the parish of St-Hughes. In Rockland Alain Bernard ramrodded the annual food drive as usual on behalf of the Rockland Help Centre’s food bank. This year’s e"orts proved more successful again than previous years with 11,500 food items collected for the food bank hamper drive and more than $14,300 to help supplement the hamper lists.

Gangs of bearded men in red suits roa- med all around Clarence-Rockland and Alfred-Plantagenet, all of them with com- panions garbed in red hats, or in a few cases, harlequinesque red-and-green tights and tunics. But not a single was looking for trouble.
