Old and not-so-old Volkswagen and Audi vehicles gathered at Yahoo Park for the 2016 Embrun Volksfest on Sunday August 7. As it has been for now 25 years, VW enthusiasts fromaround the area converged to Embrun and had the chance to show off and appreciate a variety of these cars. From modified air cooled Beetles and buses to Golfs and Jettas, cars of all ages were present at the event. Still time for Local Food Challenge Local fans of all the shows on The Food Network channel are more than welcome to sign up for The Second Annual Local Food Challenge and set out on their own foodie safari. Un vin d’honneur a été organisé par le théâtre La Barouette lors de la première représentation de la pièce Premières de classe, au Centre communautaire de Limoges, le vendredi 5 août dernier. La troupe de théâtre a déjà présenté cette pièce à quelques reprises à l’Ancienne prison de L’Orignal et poursuivra sa tournée à la Station 4 Saisons de Hammond dans les semaines à venir. On reconnait le conseillermunicipal de La Nation, Marc Laflèche, les comédiennes Virginie Houët-Brunette, Laurianne Lehouillier, Julie Grethen et Laurence Latreille, la conseillère municipale de Russell, Amanda Simard, ainsi que le metteur en scène, Charles Rose. —photo Danic Legault

Last year more than 200 local businesses and community groups and individuals took part in the inaugural food challenge. Organi- zers expect an even bigger turnout this year. Local food businesses, including producers and event organizers, can also register for free as an event partner at www.localfood- challenge.ca. The mid-August weekend marks the official launch of the Local Food Challenge with events taking place Aug. 12 at the Maxville Farmers’ Market, and Aug. 13 at the Farmers’ Markets in Chesterville, Vankleek Hill, and Cornwall.The grand finale event is Aug. 28 in Cornwall at the Eastern Ontario Garlic Festival, featuring cooking demonstrations, and also distribution of challenge prizes.

The challenge is a joint project of the members of the AllThings Food Community Food Network (ATFCFN), which includes the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, Kozroots Community Empowerment Projects, Centre de santé communautaire de l’Estrie, Sea- way Valley Community Health Centre, the Five Counties, and the Social Development Council of Cornwall and Area. The goal is to help educate residents of Eastern Onta- rio about all the local foods and beverages produced within their own region and also share their experiences and discoveries. “This event is meant to be a fun, yet com- petitive way for residents to explore their local food community and all that it has to of- fer,” stated Kat Rendek, ATFCFN coordinator.
