II. REALITY I lf PRIVATE LIFE. Nothing can take the place of a * -personal, intimate walk with the Lord. No amount of front, of using the ap proved terms, of going through the motions of being spiritual, will get by with the Lord. It woji’t fool the group long, either! You have to be real with the Lord in order to be used. This means a consistent prayer life, a faithful study of the Word, honest confession of sin, and an unreserved commitment to do His will in humble dependence upon the enabling Holy Spirit. Any lack here spells ultimate failure and “shelv ing from leadership.” IIL EXEMPLIFICATION IN PUBLIC LIFE. “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Tim. 4:12). The leader must set the pace, That means no slipshod preparation for meetings, no Urging others to do what one doesn’t do oneself. One morning at three o’clock, I started out on an unknown trail with a Tlapaneco boy as guide. It was complete blackout that night. I could not even sea the trail. It was dan gerous, one misstep meant dropping over the edge of a cliff. He went at practically a trot and never faltered- once. I followed, one pace behind, eyes glued to the' one thing visible, his light straw hat bobbing in the darkness. I followed, without fear or question, for he went ahead, and he knew the way. One cannot lead where he himself has never gone! In memorization of the Word, in witnessing, in conscien tiousness, the leader must be out in front. IV. ABILITY TO TRAIN OTHERS. “The things that thou hast heard . ... commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also” (2 Tim. 2:2). As soon as an Indian child can walk, a rope is placed across his forehead and a bundle suspended on his back. He learns and grows strong by doing. It is not long until he can carry incredible loads over the stiffest mountain trails for hours with ease and endurance. He did not learn with crutches but with a pack on his back. Similarly, one does hot train lead ership by clipping a paragraph and handing it to someone to read in the meeting. Far more vital and profitable will be some simple truth dug out of the Word by private study than the most profound secondhand t r u t h stumblingly read to an inattentive audience. Why not spend an hour with your Bible studying the secret of leadership as exemplified in lives of Abraham, Moses, and David?

There’s a relationship between Sunday School Teacher and pupil that Calls for the best in teaching technique. Nothing short o f that will do. So we have prepared a booklet entitled “The Sunday School Teacher in Action” |which is free for the asking. It dramatizes in picture form the right and wrong way to conduct a Sunday School class . . . how to put the lesson message across with interest and conviction. The pictures in this booklet were especially posed by experts who have observed Sunday -School procedure for years. They used a typical class and teacher as their subjects. These con trasts will help many teachers recognize common weak nesses that so easily creep into their Sunday morning efforts. Many Sunday School workers have written telling us how they have been helped by observing such comparisons. . 3et this booklet at
