Health and Safety Job Purpose
The Head of Health and Safety is responsible for providing assurance to the Senior Leadership Team and Health and Safety Committee on the status of the University’s compliance with statutory, regulatory and best practice health and safety compliance. The Head of Health and Safety is responsible for providing strategic leadership of the safety function to ensure the University not only discharges its legal obligations in relation to Health and Safety but maintains a safety management system that is able to effectively control the risk associated with London Metropolitan University’s activities. The Head of Health and Safety is also charged with promoting good practice and continuous improvement in the safety agenda, while maintaining a high standard advisory service covering all aspects of health and safety. In achieving this the Head of Health and Safety will establishing and manage processes and systems that permit the effective governance and management of Health and Safety throughout London Metropolitan University Key areas • Provide effective leadership for the Health and Safety Team • Maintain an effective Health and Safety auditing and inspection programme • Develop and implement a University Health and Safety strategy • Maintain the University’s corporate policy and procedures • Develop key performance indicators in Health and Safety • Develop and maintain the Health and Safety website, data bases and information • Produce monthly statistics, accidents, ill-health data etc., • Take a shared problem solving approach to proactively provide advice, guidance and support on health and safety matters to school and departments. • Implement and maintain a Health and Safety document management system • Oversee the procurement of Health and Safety related materials, equipment and services maintaining associated inventories and records. • Manage the expectation of Schools and departments in relations to their Health and Safety responsibilities.
