• To advise the Estates team regarding adequacy of both hard and soft fire systems and their arrangements i.e. Fire strategy for each building, fire alarm systems, maintenance and testing, fire signage, fire documentation etc. • To ensure a rolling programme of fire risk assessments, inspections and evacuation drills with an adequately competent number of fire wardens are undertaken by the health and safety team. Health and Safety Committees • To provide professional support to Schools and other departmental Health and Safety committees including advice on risk management and development of local Health and Safety procedures. • To attend, advise and support the University Health and Safety Committee, and other Committees as required and to prepare an annual report and periodic reports on progress, accidents and incidents and accident statistics, stratagem, annual plan together with progress on audit and inspection findings. Specialist Issues • To advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, radiation, laser, hazardous substances, noise, and safeguarding of machinery • To advise and provide training on the storage, handling, use and disposal of dangerous substances and special waste and monitor compliance of the COSHH management system • Liaising with the University’s Occupational Health Service and Human Resources Department on such matters as occupational health surveillance and monitoring, and health promotion.
