2. A municipal type water supply system must include fire hydrants. a. Fire hydrants must meet City of Wichita standards, in both urban-type and rural-type subdivisions. b. Water supply main lines must be 8 inches minimum in diameter, with 6 inch fire hydrant riser assemblies. c. Fire hydrants are subject to inspection and approval by the applicable Fire Chief or their designee. D. Sanitary Sewer Systems. Sanitary sewer systems required by these Subdivision Regulations must comply with Kansas Department of Health and Environment regulations, and City standards. 1. Septic tank systems and wastewater lagoons must comply with the Butler County Sanitary Code, including standards for lot suitability, installation, and inspection. E. Electricity and Communications. All installations providing electricity and communication services must be under contract with the applicable utility provider. 1. No permanent overhead utilities are permitted in urban- type residential subdivisions. a. Exceptions may be made where underground wiring is unfeasible, or for lines rated over 12,000 volts. b. Exceptions may be made for proposed subdivisions or replats of existing subdivisions in areas with existing overhead utilities . c. Streetlight poles, transformers, transformer pads, telephone service pedestals, or similar equipment may be mounted on the ground.

2. In rural-type subdivisions, overhead utility lines for electric and communications services must be located in rear lot line easements or designated side lot line easements . 3. Locate all underground utilities within easements or dedicated public ways, where they will not conflict with other underground services. a. Transformer Boxes. Locate transformer boxes so they are not dangerous to the public or unsightly. (1) Transformers must not be located in VISION TRIANGLES, VEHICLE ACCESS VISION TRIANGLES, or drainage easements. 4. Utilities which are necessary to provide service to the subdivision, but which are located outside of the subdivision plat, may not be required to be underground. F. Screening. If screening of public or private areas is required by the City's Site Plan Review Standards, such required screening must be installed. (See definition of SCREENING.) G. Survey Monuments. Place survey monuments at all block corners, angle points, and points of curves in streets shown on the final plat, and at intermediate points as required by the applicable engineer. 1. Survey monuments made of iron rebar must be at least 18" long and 5/8" in outside diameter. 2. Survey monuments must be securely set in concrete, with the top of the monument at least 3" below finish grade. 3. Benchmarks may also be required, of material, length, and diameter as approved by the applicable engineer.
