4. Arterial Street Design Requirements. a. Arterial Roadway Construction.
c. Required Roadway Widths. (1) For Class A arterial streets, r oadway from back of curb to back of curb must be at least 49 feet wide. (2) For Class B arterial streets, roadway from back of curb to back of curb must be at least 39 feet wide. (3) For Class C arterial streets, roadway from back of curb to back of curb must be at least 31 feet wide. (4) For Class D arterial streets, roadway wearing surface must be at least 28 feet wide, with a 3-foot wide shoulder of compacted gravel on each side. d. Drainage Improvements: Design drainage improvements accessory to arterial streets so that at least one 8-foot lane in each direction remains free of encroachment by the 5-year initial design storm. e. SIDEWALKS. (1) Class A, B, and C arterial streets must have a 10- foot wide concrete sidewalk/bicycle path along one side. (a) Class A, B, and C arterial streets may have a 5-foot wide concrete sidewalk along the other side. (2) Sidewalks are not required on Class D arterial streets. f. Parking Prohibitions. Parking must be prohibited along both sides of arterial streets.
(1) Arterial roadways must be constructed of materials required by the City Engineer as determined by traffic load and geotechnical study. (2) The design of the arterial roadway cross-section must be approved by the City Engineer. (3) Curb and Gutter. (a) Class A, B and C arterial streets must be constructed with standard type curb and gutter. (b) Class D arterial streets do not require curb and gutter. b. Required Right-of-way Widths. (1) Arterial right-of-way widths must conform to the intent of the Comprehensive Plan. (2) Right-of-way for arterial streets must be at least 100 feet wide. (a) Exception: Within 250 feet of the intersection of the center lines of an arterial street with any other arterial street, right-of-way must be 150 feet wide, tapering to 100 feet wide at 350 feet from the intersection. (b) Exception: For streets and roadways in the Butler County Functional Classification System, County design standards must apply.
