FLOOR AREA: Floor area means the gross floor area of the building measured from the exterior faces of the exterior walls, or from the centerline of walls which separate 2 buildings. 1. The following must be included in calculations of gross floor area: a. All the floors of a multi-story building, including basements, penthouses, interior balconies and mezzanines. b. Attic space (whether or not a floor has actually been laid) and basements, when there is at least 7 feet of headroom. c. Elevator shafts and stair wells at each story. d. Floor space used for mechanical equipment, when there is at least 7 feet of headroom. 2. Gross floor area does not include cellars, crawlspaces, or any basement space devoted to vehicle parking. FLOOR AREA RATIO: The numerical value obtained by dividing the gross floor area of all buildings on a zoning lot, by the area of the lot. FOOD TRUCK: A readily movable, motorized wheeled vehicle, or a towed wheeled vehicle, designed and equipped to serve food. Also known as a Mobile Retail Food Vendor.
FRONTAGE ROAD: A local street which is parallel with and adjacent to a limited access highway or arterial street, which provides safer, slower-speed access to abutting properties. Also known as a marginal access street or marginal access road. FUEL DISPENSER: See VEHICLE FUEL DISPENSER. GARAGE: An enclosed roofed structure, independent of or attached to a building, with at least one access door at least 8 feet wide, with driveway access to a street or alley, and intended to provide permanent parking space and shelter for at least one motor vehicle. GARDEN CENTER: A business which sells living plants intended for planting outdoors, and related tools and supplies. May also provide related landscaping services. Often includes outdoor storage and display areas for plants and associated landscaping materials, and may include greenhouses. (See GREENHOUSE.) GAS STATION: Premises used for the storage and sale of petroleum fuel, primarily to passenger vehicles, and for accessory uses such as the sale of lubricants, accessories or supplies, or the incidental washing of motor vehicles. GOLF CART: A motor vehicle designed to carry no more than 4 people, with a maximum speed of 25 miles per hour, at least 3 wheels contacting the ground, and a maximum unladen weight of 1800 pounds. GRAPHIC ELEMENT: Any text, illustration, symbol, logo, figure, insignia, or other drawing or design used to express and illustrate a message or part of a message.
