GREENHOUSE: A structure with transparent or translucent roof and sides, intended for growing plants, and including hydroponics farming. 1. Retail and wholesale sales are permitted of plants grown, including sales of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and the like, but not lawn equipment and furniture. (See GARDEN CENTER.) GREENSPACE: Land in an urban area which is intended to be maintained in a largely undeveloped state, and to be used primarily for resource protection or recreation. GROSS FLOOR AREA: See FLOOR AREA. GROUNDCOVER: Low-growing plants, excluding turfgrasses, which are typically under 24 inches in height at maturity, and grow densely enough to provide a continuous cover of the ground surface. (See SHRUB.)

HALF-STREET: See STREET/HALF-STREET. HARMONY: The quality of forming a pleasing and compatible whole, as in the arrangement of various architectural and landscape elements. HAZARDOUS WASTE FACILITY: Any facility or part of a facility used for treating, storing or disposing of refuse with physical, chemical, or biological properties which pose a substantial hazard to health, and which therefore cannot be handled by routine waste management techniques. 1. This term includes hazardous waste injection wells, and all related definitions pertaining to hazardous wastes contained in Kansas statutes. (See K.S.A. 65-3430 et seq. ) HEIGHT, MAXIMUM: A horizontal plane above and parallel to the average finished grade of an entire zoning lot, at the maximum height for that zoning district, above which most structures may not project. (See Zoning Regulations, Section 3-102-E2b , for exceptions.) HOME OCCUPATION: A business, profession, occupation, or trade (with the exception of gunsmithing and the sale of firearms and ammunition) conducted by the resident owner or tenant for gain or support, which is located entirely within a residential building or manufactured/mobile home, or within a permitted structure accessory to a residential building or manufactured/mobile home. (See Zoning Regulations, Section 7-103 for Home Occupations.)

GROUP BOARDING HOME: A non-secure facility providing residential care for between 5 and 10 persons who are unrelated to the caregivers, including emergency shelters and maternity homes. GROUP HOME: A dwelling occupied by no more than 2 resident staff members, and a maximum of 8 people with a disability which is a physical or mental impairment as defined by K.S.A. 12-736 . See DWELLING/SINGLE-FAMILY DWELLING. 1. Resident staff members need not be related by blood or marriage to each other or to the other residents of the home.
