ROADWAY: That part of a street, alley or highway right-of-way which has been graded, surfaced or otherwise improved for use by vehicle traffic. See STREET. 1. Typically the roadway is the area between a pair of back of curb lines, except for driveway entries and sidewalk ramps. A roadway may also include on-street parking areas. ROOMING HOUSE: See BOARDING HOUSE. SALVAGE YARD: Any land or building used for the collection, storage or sale of discarded or used materials, including but not limited to scrap iron and other metals, tires, materials from the demolition of buildings or structures, machinery, or two or more unlicensed or inoperable motor vehicles stored outside. SCALE: 1. On a drawing, a ratio used to show drawn objects at a specific proportion of the object's actual size. 2. In architecture, the relative size of one element in relation to other elements in its architectural context. SCREENING: A structure, wall, fence, or vegetation that blocks views of the area behind the screening from adjacent properties or public ways. (See Subdivision Regulations, Section 8-106D for Screening Easement.) (See Site Plan Review Standards, Sections 3.4.8 and 3.4.11 for Screening Requirements.) SELF-PROPELLED FARM IMPLEMENT: Any farm implement with a motive power unit permanently incorporated into its structure, and designed for specific agricultural uses.

SELF-SERVICE STORAGE FACILITY: A building or group of buildings consisting of separate controlled-access compartments, which are leased to individuals, organizations, or businesses for self-service indoor storage of personal property. (See Zoning Regulations, Section 4-107.) 1. Outdoor storage may also be permitted, but only when specifically permitted by these Regulations.

  SEMITRAILER: A vehicle without motive power, designed to be towed by a motor vehicle (usually a truck tractor), and designed so that some part of its own weight and load is carried by the motor vehicle. (See TRUCK TRACTOR.)

 Photo: Semitrailer (example) SETBACK LINE: A line on a parcel of land, parallel to a property line or right-of-way line, which establishes the minimum or maximum width for the front, side or rear yard required between the parcel boundaries and any building or structure. (See YARD.)

1. A platted setback line may be more restrictive than required by applicable zoning or other regulations, but not less restrictive.
